  • Wireless Card for an Old Laptop

    Apr 27, 2012

    industryman  from Peoria, IL, Rating:5.0

I purchased the card for an older laptop connecting to a wireless "n" network modem. This card was the most inexpensive I found and it performed just like more expensive cards. I recommend it for anyone trying to connect to upgraded wireless networks from older laptops.

I bought this after upgrading my ham radio computer to one that had no serial ports. The problem is the USB to serial did not want to work with my ~20 year old baycom modem device. Yes it still works. This PCI card plugged in, linux (Ubuntu 11.10) recognized it as a standard device with different interrupts and IO base than COM1 & 2, but that wasn't an issue at all. I used the new addresses in the baycom driver, and it has worked flawlessly for several weeks now. Although serial ports may have died out in the mainstream computing, it is still alive an well in amateur radio world!
