The WGX102 really does work, however the tech support and set up instruction are terrible. Expect to have problems getting this device to work. Once it is set up correctly, it works like a champ. Do not expect a lot of help from NETGEAR however; check out the forums for help. You MUST have the XE102 bridge set up and operating or a hardwire connection to your local network first before you can configure the WGX102. You may also have to rummage around to find the NETGEAR documentation is wrong for the default IP address this device takes (192.168.2.6 is the default vice what the 192.168.2.101 address noted in the documentation). You will also find the refurbished NETGEAR devices no longer have a serial number on them, so you cannot easily access the NETGEAR website for email support (it requires the serial number of the device). You will need to email NETGEAR and exchange emails once or twice before you'll get tech assist, but they will attempt to help you. Again, I found faster to get help from a few forums to get the device configured. The WGX102 does, as others have stated, put out some heat. It is warm/hot to the touch, so plug the device in to a receptical that is open and gets some air to avoid heat build up. Once I got the device set up and configured, it worked like a champ. That did take me a couple of days of poking around to get the device reset and configured so if you aren't too technically inclined, invite your techie friend over for dinner and show them your new gear...maybe they'll help you get it set up! I bought this device to fill in a dead spot in my home wireless network and I'm now running my entire wireless network off this access point vice my router wireless access point! So be ready for some frustration but you can make this work...it is worth the effort.
