There was no instructions for instillation with the product but it was just a plug and play. It was just what I needed to supplement my hard drive. I have had second hard drives before but this external hard drive can be used on any of my computers. Very handy. I didn't want a larger hard drive and couldn't afford them. I've had other refurbished products and have had no problems with them. This product is a good value for the price and I like it's performance.
The refurbished 160gb Passport is a great buy. I shopped the internet carefully, including auction sites, and bought this unit for about the same price as used units elsewhere. When it arrived (on time), it looked new to me; and it's worked perfectly ever since. Since I'm just using it as a simple external drive, I ignored the bundled software - just plug and play with Vista or XP.
