Read The Manual Carefully

The product seems to work well, but it took some patient reading of the manual, especially since it is not that clearly written or organized, as many other reviews have already noted. In fairness, there are some complicated aspects of this device. I think if manual writers did some pretesting on a sample of users to identify the most common "errors" that users make, they could create a section similar to FAQs in which they listed FUMs or Frequent User Mistakes, along with the remedies. And as others note, the buttons on both the machine and remote are tiny; making them larger would be a great improvement.

I bought this in Nov. 09 for my son's room, as we first searched in our town locally and had no luck finding anything with a built-in tuner, as the cable company we use does not require us to need a cable box at all! This is the best.. so easy to hook-up and use! I got ready to buy myself one just like his in Dec. 09 when I was ready they had just sold out so I bought a different one. I am returning it now as it was defective when it arrived. I am waiting for RESTOCK for this exact item for myself and cannot wait to have one for my room also!Very content & Happy in Arizona!

I was never 100% clear if this was a new or refurbished machine, so I had some concerns about the quality. The machine itself seems to be fine, but this is perhaps the most frustrating remote I've ever encountered. The buttons are tiny and there is nothing intuitive about the operation. There are a lot of steps involved in dubbing VHS to DVD (the main reason I got this unit - to copy old family videos), but once I got the hang of it, it wasn't too difficult. So far, so good.

Waste of Money Did Not Work

I bought this for a Christmas present. When it was hooked up on Christmas, the recorder did not work. The lights would come on but both the DVD player and the VCR player would not work The unit does not transmit any signal out of it! What a disappointment when I gave it for a Christmas present, only to be embarassed to find that it did not work! I sent and e-mail to Overstock.com today to see if they would replace it with one that works or would take it back. Would not recommend this product. Very disappoiinted to buy a product, especially for a Christmas present and find out that it did not work!

This is a great machine for recording TV programs if you use an antenna for your signal with a digital TV. Has built-in digital tuner that you need to record over-air TV. Easy to use and the price is the best I found.

I have been very happy with this product. Reviews that I had read mentioned the small buttons, though I didn't have a problem with them. I have only recorded vcr, so far. But I expect no problem with recording dvd.

I couldn't even test this product to give it a chance to prove itself! The door to the DVD side would not open when you pushed the button on the player, nor the remote. When it did there was a serious delay in it doing either.

I bought this product for family members who were having trouble with connecting TV/digital converter/VCR after learning that they had to have a tuner to be able to record a program (No one had explained this to them until they'd bought and returned two other machines, thinking they were defective!). Overstock.com had the best price I could find, and I trusted the brand from previous purchases. They hooked it up, one-two-three and are very satisfied. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was because they haven't tried the DVD recorder part yet, so can't really rate it fully.

This is a good OTA unit but with all combo units you have to set the "Timer Set" which turns off the unit. You can turn it on to watch TV but it is in VCR mode if you set a DVD recording. If you forget to press "Timer Set" these units won't record. There is no swap between last channel and no preview of upcoming shows.

This unit is a very good value. It's rare to have a DVD recorder that has a built in digital tuner. Most have opted for diect connection to a set-top box with no tuner. I had an initial set-up problem that resolved itself and now I'm very happy with the overall performance.

We bought this to copy over our camcorder videos. We were looking for something quick and easy that wouldn't break the bank. Set up was a snap in within 2 days we had hours and hours of home videos burned onto DVD. Bonus feature is the digital tuner. We get some stations better through the DVD tuner. Very happy with our purchase.

The Magnavox DVD Recorder & VCR Combo w/ Digital Tuner was easy to setup. Everything needed to connect to tv was included. Great value. Only negitive is time of warrenty which is 90 days.

While this will burn a DVD from a VHS tape I found that if I take the DVD to another player it shows me a invalid disc and will not play it. It seems to do a decent job as far as copying to DVD and automatically puts chapters in so you can fast forward through the disc . Both VHS tapes and DVD disc play nicely on this unit so I would recomend it with its limitations on disc playback. With my cable connection I was not able to use the Digital tuner so I cannot recommend on how it works.

I have 10 of this product and it has taken me awhile to learn alot of the ins and outs but as you see with 10 of them I must like them. I also have 3 of the newer one, I like this model the best. I saw where someone had problems with time changing. You have to take the day light savings time off and the auto clock setting to off it it will stop jumping time. I also had problems with the channel going to a high one and when I wanted say channel 3 it would flick back. I use the vcr and I would hit the bottonfor the dvd and change it and then go back to vcr and it would stay. I bought 2 from overstock last week and have hooked up 1 so far and it is wokrking great.

Hesitant at first to order a refurbished product but this has been the best purchase ever! Easy to hook up and operate can record from vhs to dvd and from tv to dvd in a breeze. Love it. Cant wait to start copying all my family vacations from vhs to dvd.Great product at a very low price! Instruction book very easy to read and understand.

Had to return after 3 days. First the time kept changing on its own overnight, then the remote failed to work. Speaking of which, the buttons on the remote are very small and difficult to use. I purchased a new, high-end Panasonic to replace it and am very happy thus far.
