While this will burn a DVD from a VHS tape I found that if I take the DVD to another player it shows me a invalid disc and will not play it. It seems to do a decent job as far as copying to DVD and automatically puts chapters in so you can fast forward through the disc . Both VHS tapes and DVD disc play nicely on this unit so I would recomend it with its limitations on disc playback. With my cable connection I was not able to use the Digital tuner so I cannot recommend on how it works.

I have 10 of this product and it has taken me awhile to learn alot of the ins and outs but as you see with 10 of them I must like them. I also have 3 of the newer one, I like this model the best. I saw where someone had problems with time changing. You have to take the day light savings time off and the auto clock setting to off it it will stop jumping time. I also had problems with the channel going to a high one and when I wanted say channel 3 it would flick back. I use the vcr and I would hit the bottonfor the dvd and change it and then go back to vcr and it would stay. I bought 2 from overstock last week and have hooked up 1 so far and it is wokrking great.

Hesitant at first to order a refurbished product but this has been the best purchase ever! Easy to hook up and operate can record from vhs to dvd and from tv to dvd in a breeze. Love it. Cant wait to start copying all my family vacations from vhs to dvd.Great product at a very low price! Instruction book very easy to read and understand.

Had to return after 3 days. First the time kept changing on its own overnight, then the remote failed to work. Speaking of which, the buttons on the remote are very small and difficult to use. I purchased a new, high-end Panasonic to replace it and am very happy thus far.

The unit I purchased has been operating with no problems, and the price from overstock.com was very good. In the future i will always check with overstock.com before making any purchases. I have had no problems with how to operate the unit, since the instruction book gives a very clear instruction of the differant functions.

I returned two of these due to the clock not keeping the correct time after setting it up for a timer recording. After inserting a VHS tape in the second unit and hitting 'play', the machine shut itself off after a few seconds and subsequently ate the tape. I lost two VHS tapes to it's appetite. If a product cannot handle something as basic as keeping time, you can imagine the rest of it's technology.

My recorder arrived when promised. But when I connected the recorder to my tv & tried to operate it I found that the dvd door would not open or close properly. It was as if something was jamming inside the machine or something was misaligned on the track. We opened up the box only to find that someone had left a dvd inside of it & it and it had fallen under the device & was jamming the open/close door function.
Fortunately we were able to remove the disc & then the door opened & closed properly.
I think the machine should have been checked for proper working order before being sent out.

This DVR/VCR is easy to hook up and replaces the DVD converter box if you use over-the-air antenna TV. The picture quality is very good, and it records well. The only drawbacks are 1) you can't watch DTV if you have the timer recording on, 2) you can't delete channels within the main channel, such as the Spanish PBS channels - it will delete all the channels within the main channel number, and 3) the remote control buttons are very small making it difficult to operate in the dark (such as in bed). Otherwise, this product is awesome, especially at this price, for a one-unit digital tuner, DVR/VCR.

I ordered this product because I do not have cable and would need the box for the HD mandate. With all the advertising about this change I never heard you would not be able to record with your 'old' vcr if it did not have a tuner even if you had the separate tuner box. After the vcr/dvd was connected (could see the picture quality improve on the TV so I know it was going thru the vcr/dvd) I could not get the vcr/dvd menu to come up. I read the install guide and I called the support number to no avail. I am a programmer an not unaccustomed to programming things. When I could not get the menu to come up I returned the vcr/dvd to Overstock. The cost to return an item that was not working with my TV was almost $50 !!! $39.00 because the box was opened and almost $10 for the prepaid label. I was very surprised as Overstock was always one of my favorite sites in the past. The item was packaged nicely with all parts there. The remote has very small buttons.
