    Not Bad,  Jun 16, 2008

This is the first MP3 I have purchased and used. It is relatively easy to use and I do like the earphones. I have rather small ears and usually have trouble using ear buds, but this design is great and comfortable. Also, all of the accessories that are included really increase the value. Initially I was a little put off by the size. I thought it was way too small. But now that I have gotten used to it I actually like the compactness of it. It makes it easy to stow away when I'm at work, the gym or just out and about. My only issue at this point is that when you shut it off and restart it, it does not pick up where you left off and you have to scroll to the song that you want. I have not found that there is a way to just go directly to a song that you want, you just have to keep rolling though. I have not figured out how to make playlists yet, I am hoping that this is an option which might make searching a little easier. I'll have to read the book. The whole ordering process, however, was good. It took about 5 days to receive, which is not bad. I will definitely consider ordering from Overstock.com again. All in all I am very satisfied w/ my purchase.

I wanted something inexpensive and functional to replace my portable CD player that I could also use at the gym. That's what I've got. Sound quality is good. The included headphones aren't bad and come with multiple sleeves to get a good fit for your ear. They definitely beat your basic inexpensive earbuds, but are obviously no competition for my other pair (in-ear headphones from Shure). The small size is nice, and there's a place to insert a ring (included) that you can then use to attach it to whatever (keychain, lanyard, etc.) you'd like. Sound quality on voice recordings is suprisingly good, and recording from the radio is pretty easy. I found the controls relatively easy to figure out, if not exceptionally intuitive (I still sometimes hit "play" instead of "M" in the final screen for file selection). The display is bright and almost always easy to read. It's easy to transfer songs just by dragging and dropping files from your computer, like any other USB drive. That said, there are things I'm not crazy about. The on/off button is unpredictable, but the play button works fine to turn it on and off. The 4-way control sometimes rolls the wrong way when I go to click the bottom button (advancing the song or radio station, instead of pulling up the volume dialog). My hands aren't very big, but the controls _are_ that small. A lot of times I end up using just the edge of my nail on the controls, and that seems to work better. Having to pull up the screen to change the volume is a minor annoyance when listening to music with a lot of volume changes, but you get used to it pretty quickly. It charges pretty quickly, but the charge only lasts for about 5 hours. My only real beef with it, though, is radio reception. When I was using my CD player (where the headphones serve as the antenna, just like with this player) I had excellent reception on the 6-7 stations I listen to the most except for one area (right below the transmission tower) where only one station comes through well, no matter what you do. With this, no matter where I am, only one station comes in well. The rest are fuzzy and inconsistent - from one bus stop to the next, I may go from clear as a bell to impossible to hear. Most of the time, it's audible but static-y enough that it's annoying to listen to. When I can get the station, the sound quality's good, but I'm listening to the radio a lot less now, because I'm not willing to put up with the poor reception. FWIW, I'm in the near suburbs of a relatively large city, so it's not like my CD player was working miracles before. I've also swapped out my old headphones with the ones that came with the player to no avail. So if you're looking to listen to a lot of radio, I wouldn't recommend this. The radio reception aside, however, it does what it says it will, adequately, and hasn't manifested any horrible flaws in the month I've had it. I might not buy it again, and I wouldn't recommend it to a friend without telling them everything I've said here - and maybe loaning it to them to test drive the radio in their area - but for the price, I'm satisfied with its performance.
