This is my 2nd one of these. I just flat wore the first one out. Took 6 years though. It has the fingertip roller ball. This is much easier for me to use than the thumb ball. The mouse itself is a little large, but better stability. Won't move around on you. For a laptop with limited space this is marvelous. The buttons are all very nicely placed. I wouldn't own anything else if I can help it. I hunted to get this one. My favorite!

I bought 1 of these less than 6 months ago to replace my Microsoft Trackball Explorer and have been sadly disappointed from the beginning of my experience with this new trackball device. I frequently replace the batteries in an attempt to improve its function. The left click button barely works (you have to rapidly click it 5-10 times for it to register) and that makes it impossible to play games as well as many other things. Only then did I look into it enough to realize that I can't even program a different button to be the "left-click" button. I have uninstalled and re-installed the software repeatedly and no improvement with that either. I am amazed at how poorly it performs in only 6 months of use. I can't seem to get a response from the support folks at Logitech. I wish Microsoft would re-introduce the Trackball Explorer with a USB 2.0 upgrade - this would be a fabulous thing for those of us trying to use more ergonomic equipment.

I've been disappointed with trackball offerings since Logitech took their old Trackman off the market. Nothing I've seen on the market since has looked anywhere near as comfortable to use. Recent trouble with my hands prompted me to take the plunge.
I purchased this particular model because it looked like the most comfortable thing going, and had received mostly favorable reviews. I can't say whether it's helped my hands yet, but I do find it more comfortable than a normal mouse already.
The motion was very stiff at first, but within a few minutes, was very smooth and easy to use. The tracking took a little while to get used to. Even after calibrating it, I had a lot of difficulty moving the mouse pointer correctly in the horizontal plane. After a few hours, movement was pretty natural.
The thumb button (left-click by default) is very nicely placed, and became intuitive quickly. The scroll wheel, likewise, became very easy to use very quickly, although I still have some difficulty using the scroll wheel's click-button capability (which I depended on heavily with my old mouse). I still have some difficulty highlighting text easily with the unit after a couple of weeks, but have easily worked around this by highlighting with my keyboard in most instances.
The wireless connection has worked very well for me, and is quite responsive. It's indistinguishable from a wired mouse for me.
Very easy to use and intuitive now, though a bit slow. Also much more comfortable. For office applications, I wouldn't use anything else now. For home use, I'm still on a traditional mouse, because I can't use a trackball quickly enough for gaming.
