My laptop's keyboard began to fail, and I hoped I could find a set-up that took up minimal space, and accommodate a new keyboard. I ran across this product by accident, and it fit almost all of my needs.
Good stuff:
The keyboard has held up well over 1.5 months of use. I hope it lasts the life of my laptop.
The rubber binder located in the middle of the unit that allows the unit to fold like a book also is a convenient "brake" that keeps most of the laptop on the stand, if the design & weight of your machine won't allow it to stay on the incline of the stand.
I haven't used the USB dock built in the unit yet. It is nice to know that there's a place to connect other devices to my machine if I have to. I'll need a separate power connection for it, as others have noted.
From the keyboard, there are a few functions that can control the browser and multimedia programs (such as Real Player), and control the volume of the speaker.
The Annoying:
If you have greasy palms, you'll find yourself cleaning the palm rest every day. The palm rest resists oil infiltration very well.
The keyboard will never (without a software solution, perhaps) replicate the special functions that are built into your machine's original keyboard.
The browser functions on the keyboard appear to work with Microsoft's IE only. (My ISP has its own multi-window browser which does not respond to the keyboard's commands. I have not tested the functions with any other browsers.)
Depending on the size of your laptop, the indicator lights for CapsLock, ScrollLock, etc. may be blocked. I wish Logitech had put the lights immediately above the numeric keypad where they were born to be!
There was a conflict with the keyboard and a program running on my laptop that caused my laptop to display the Blue Screen of Death (tm) after waking up from hibernation mode. After uninstalling a number of programs I never used via the control panel or editing the registry (!), the laptop acted normally.
I'm satisfied with my purchase.
