Before you buy a printer you really need to ask yourself why you're buying it and for what purpose will it be used. If you are looking for a photo quality printer, go elsewhere as this product was never designed for that purpose. If you're looking for a high quality, durable product which will provide years of service in more of an office setting this is a great product. At the time I purchased this, Iooked at the printers that were currently the top ranked devices by both consumer and professional sources and fount them to provide excellent print quality and functionality but physically they were built like toys with very cheap plastic. In fact when you open the front cover on any of them, it felt like it would break right off. This printer was significantly more substantial and is built with a multi-user environment in mind. The largest 'dings' which I could find on the product was that technologically it was dated since it doesn't use an all-in one cartridge (thank you Lexmark) and that the print quality wasn't as high as some of it's competitors. For business or educational applicaitons, the image quality is excellent. The printer is very fast given it's a 4 color printer and the supply costs while in the middle of the pack, favor the lower end. My analysis showed that the consumable costs were roughly $.024 for black and $.099 for color assuming that you were purchasing the supplies from Amazon.com using the Lexmark cartridge return program. A note for those who do not understand laser printing technology. The printer will print in Black and Color....if there is any color on the page it's a color page using the colors to create black. There is a review by someone who slammed the printer because they printed 1000 pages with a red logo and used up their magenta. Ignore him/her that person obviously does not understand the technology or their applications. If you want to print black text with a logo, go to a printer and have letterhead printed then use a b/w printer. You'll save a ton of money. By the way, I've installed a lot of printers in my time having spent 25 years in the printing/copying industry and this was by far one of the easiest installations I have ever done. Don't be intimidated by lack of detailed installation instructions, you don't need them. Put the pieces together, load drivers from the CD and you're good to go, it's that simple.
