I bought this printer about 6 months ago for my small business. I'm a realtor and about 90% of what I do is black and white printing & copies, with a little scanning and faxing. The color is good and can be adjusted to make the images look fantastic on the right paper (I use 28lb color copy paper). Let me give you a few of the problems that I've had so far: It's really slow when printing large files in full color. I print a 2mb flyer and it can take 2 or 3 minutes for it to print. Annoying but I can live with it. You can use the tray to print envelopes. You have to feed them manually one at a time and the roller is too hot so unless you put a sheet between the glue and the lip the envelope will hot seal itself. Don't happen with HP but the toner is 25 to 50 % more The scanning software is pretty bad. if you want to create in a readable PDF be prepared for 2mb per page. But you can scan to word docs and create something reasonable. And now I just found the piece de resistance - the reason you should never own one of these. I recently ran out of yellow toner and now the machine will not work at all until its replaced. Remember I do most of my work in black and white so I was thinking I would just continue to do so until my toner arrived but no. Nothing will work with this machine until I replace that toner. No black and white printing, no coping, no scanning and no faxing. I called tech support and very politely they told me that unless the machine was in 100% working order it would not work. If you're like me, a business owner who need things like this to just working and can't afford to keep an inventory of toner in the backroom. I would pass on this machine.

I was nervous ordering such an expensive item from Overstock, but I did get exactly what I ordered in brand new condition with hardly any dents on the shipment box. It was easy to setup; I only had to remove packing material from the machine. I replaced my HP Officejet G95 with this machine. The cartridges in this printer are not some special spare size or even the smallest available size for purchase. I was so excited when I was able to make a duplex copy by just pressing a few buttons. I have actually printed PDF files from directly from a thumbdrive, and scanned to PDF on the thumbdrive, so you can use this machine years from now when the Operating System you use might not have drivers available for it. The only problem with using the thumbdrive is that you cannot manually set options for each scan or print, but you can set default settings for using a thumbdrive from the control panel or the web interface. The fax machine eavesdrops on the answering machine and takes fax calls. My only printing quality problems are my documents with Courier New font seem light, but those documents do seem light on my display too; and stuff I print are slightly different from the screen. I have only run the automatic calibration; I have not run the manual calibration, and there are many manual calibrations settings to use. Other than the while using a thumbdrive, there are many settings. The drums (imaging kit) are separate from the toner cartridges, but I have joined and read the Lexmark Rewards program, and supposedly I will get new drum if and when I need them as long as I only use Lexmark toners. I had bad experiences using generic inks in my ink-jet printer, so I am not planning on doing generics to this machine. I will say that one detail of the program does disturb me; you can be mark as inactive if you have not return any cartridge for 18 months. When you register this product with Lexmark, you are registering with the rewards program. I would wait a while to register, because you are given the 2000 color and 2500 black page yield cartridges. I would also suggest spacing out your returns of cartridges to avoid risking inactivity.
