I actually got this as a Christmas gift last year and I am still loving it. I did notice that the stand for the wind vane is also plastic so when I was trying to put it together I accidentally broke part of the stand. I rigged a stand for it and it has been wonderful. I live in a very windy area of Southern California and from Nov to March I can get close to 60 mph winds. I would recommend this to anyone (actually I bought one for my in-laws last year for their home in the mountains.)

- Was the product free of any manufacturer defects? The wind vane is plastic and will break if not careful.
This may not be as fancy as some of the $$$$ weather stations, but I think it works great!

my husband is a weather "expert" he reviewed and researched 2 weeks before he discovered this system. bought it but told me he has his doubts as it sounded to good to be true. system came, he installed in and totally LOVES it. measures wind speed, humidity, temp and how much rain we get.... I'm sure a ton of other stuff, but this was all I got from the 30min lecuture of what a great buy this is from my husband... ;-)

The package was packed well, and the contents were undamaged. the cables between the sensors and the transmitter were WAY too long, and could not be shortened. they are now rolled up and stuck under the eaves of my Shack, very poor design I think. The readout unit has the control buttons on the side, and you cannot pick it up without resetting at least something. Calibration of the unit is still a mystery. Everytime you want to reset it, you have to take the batteries from the readout unit, then climb the tower and remove the batteries from the sending unit, then replace them in reverse order, or your unit will never sync up. It just seems to me that with 900 meg comm link between the readout unit and the outside unit, there should be some way to reset the system without having to remove all the batteries. The Anemometer only shows about half the true wind speed. Have a email into the company, we'll see?!?
For this unit to go outside there are lots of cords that are not pictured and setting it in a place where you can accommodate it all is not easy.
