do not get this tv!

Not sure what happened with JVC... I've owned other JVCs in the past... but this tv is going back... Why? it turns on and off by itself. Yes it's true and let me repeat... it turns on and off by itself. I bought this tv for my bedroom... perfect size and since I've owned JVC in the past, I felt confident. The great price didn't hurt either. 2:35 am, the tv just turned on by itself and then turned off... Mind you the volume was up and it scared the living day lights out of my husband and I... I almost had a heart attack. I thought may be one of us hit the remote in our sleep or our cat jumped on it. Nope... it was sitting right where I left it on the nightstand out of our reach. Cats were no where in sight. So I reached for the remote and tried to turn it off... no success... what the heck? the only way to turn the tv off was to unplug it. Now mind you, I don't believe our house is haunted but I tell you what, in that instant I thought ugh oh... someone was trying to reach us. Next morning I plugged in the tv and tried to turn it on with the remote. Wouldn't turn on. I had to manually turn on with the on/off button and when I did that, the tv went crazy... The 'input' mode came up and by itself it was changing the input mode from tv to component to hdmi and back again. So I held down the the power button and it shut off and then I was able to turn it back on. I immediately called JVC customer service (2 hours on hold...we won't even get into it) and they had me do some crazy machinations. So crazy I just knew it wouldn't work. But since I wanted to keep the tv I did it anyways... well after doing the craziness they asked me to perform, same thing happened again at 3:05 am this time. But I was smart... I lowered the volume so it wouldn't scare the crap out of us. Same thing happened again having to unplug it to turn it off. Now I've owned enough tvs in my life and I tell you what, this has never ever happened before. Strangest thing. I googled the situation and I guess it's not so strange after all. No for me... I just can't keep unplugging tv before I go to bed, then replugging in the next morning and then have to manually 'reset' the power button and hope that the input mode doesn't change by itself. I just want a normal tv that stays off when you hit the power off button on the remote. I hope this doesn't happen to you!

I bought this as a gift and looking back wish I'd bought another for me, the picture is fabulous, excellent value!

The picture is great! I Just ordered a pair of computer speakers with sub woofer to plug in to the head phone jack since the speakers that come with it sound a bit tinny.

Very good basic TV.

I bought this TV around Thanksgiving, 2013 and have had no problems. The picture quality is excellent and the sound quality is fair. It has two HDMI inputs, one on the back and one on the side. It is just under 35" wide so it will fit in some enclosed entertainment centers. The remote is plain looking but works well. A few reviewers have reported problems with the set turning on and off by itself but I have not had this issue. If you do, try this solution supplied by another reviewer, Richard77. Find the power button on the side of the set (it is just above the side USB port, #3 on the quick start guide). Press the power button until the set turns off, then turn it back on. This fixed the problem for Richard77.
