Internal Floppy Drives

When personal computers really took off, all computers had floppy disk drives--they had to, internal hard drives were not yet standard on home electronics. At 5.25 inches, then 3.5 inches, they held around 1MB. Not much compared today's discs, but some new floppy disks have much higher storage capacities--equal to or exceeding a CD or DVD! Most new computers no longer have factory-installed internal floppy drives; the factories think that fancier CD-RW drives or DVD-RW drives are the way to go. These are good drives, but there's no reason a computer can't also have an internal floppy drive. In such cases, rare though they are, documents, family photos, data files, etc., will be safe if they've been copied to a floppy disk and stored in your safe deposit box or some other location.
