I like this item, I bought two of them - one for the house and one for the car. I'm even thinking of ordering more for family to keep in their cars as well. It makes me feel a little safer to have this around in case of an emergency. I read the other reviews before buying and was worried about the review that said the FM didn't work. But I had nothing to worry about! Maybe that person didn't understand that it's not a regular FM Radio but one station that is only for emergeny news. Anyway, who needs regular radio stations, this product is for EMERGENCY'S!
This radio is bigger than I thought it would be and has much better sound than I expected. Great deal!
I got this radio originally for outdoor use and for our camping trip...but we were so impressed with the item, I bought another because I figured we could use one in our emergency kit! I love the fact that it can run with and without batteries! I have tried it both ways and it worked equally as well. I wish it came in cutier colors. :) Never the less, another good item at a great value!
Weather band did not work (I m just few miles from tower). Not true FM but seems to be amplitude modulation with slope detection which is tedious to fine tune and with mediocre audio. Best thing about this radio is the strap.
Great concept. The only problem is that common to many "generic branded" radios made in China the front end sensitivity and selectivity on AM is mediocre at best. FM front end is more towards normally accepted standards but is also, still, a little lacking. The actual physical tuning is difficult and the ratio of thumbwheel turning to indicator movement is "harsh". Otherwise, for use in strong signal areas this radio is fine.
reception better than expected for a small unit. Battery or hand crank operation. A must have for your disaster survival kit.
I was very pleased so far we wrapped them for christmas and have not worked them yet. This was my first time with overstock.com and it was an enjoyable experience. thank you
I bought the radio for emergencies, so I haven't really USED it, only tried it out. But, it works fine, and the channels come in clearly. It is easy to use, and great for the price.
I was looking for something that I could operate during poweroutages, etc. after a couple of ice storms last year left us without any outside communication. This fits the bill. The crank system is easy to operate and holds a charge for about 20 minutes. Reception is average although some stations come in better than others. I picked up a few for relatives so they can have them too in case we have any more bad weather this year.
I got this radio just for an emergency. I just knew it would sound hollow, but what the heck. I would just need it for alerts. Wrong. Great sound and ease of use. I'm going to buy some for friends.
"Little" is used somewhat in jest, since the radio is actually quite bulky for a battery operated portable (due to it's self-contained crank and battery pack). A solar cell array would also have been nice, but for $11, it's hard to ask for too much. Otherwise from that, selection/sensitivity is about average for AM (for really great AM, add a Terk AM-1000 or Select-A-Tenna to just about any AM radio), and slightly better than expected for FM/WB. Great for the "occasional" blizzard, hurricane, earthquake, [insert natural/man-made disaster here]. ;)
I chose this radio primarily because it was smaller than most of the other emergency wind-up radios that I have found (it is also significantly less expensive!). Smaller means easier to store when not needed, and easier to carry when it is needed. I was very pleasantly surprised to find that the sound quality is quite good (for news/talk, not music) and that it tunes easily. A good emergency kit would include this radio, a corded telephone, a wind-up flashight, and a deck of cards. I plan on giving away several of these radios to the people I care about. If I had to find something wrong with it, I would probably wish that it included TV bands and short-wave, but that would really be stretching. It is really quite good as it is.
nice emergency radio, but ear piece came broken.......................
the best thing about the radio is it works. As other reviewers have said the slider for the stations has an extrememly narrow band for each am/fm station . But i got it for emergencies and for the price it will be sufficient.
This radio works well when you need a radio in emergency situations. The handle is a bit uncomfortable to crank, due to hard edges.
Greatly needed product. A must in emergencies. A little too much plastic, I wish it was a bit more durable.
Just 2 weeks after purchasing the radio the crank broke off.
Works good & sound quality is pretty good.
I must admit, I had my doubt about a radio that works with batteries or power, but sure enough, I just cranked it a few times, and it started right up. The reception on this radio is better that my electric powered stereo system. I love the peace of mind that it WILL work in case of an emergency.
Very nice product, that helped me and my family go through "HURRICANE WILMA".
