Had similiar experience with IBM laptop I bought refurbished --- it turned out that all the problems were due to needing Windows XP service pack 2 installed --- which you can easily get from microsoft website. Also --- I bought a Kingston 1 GB RAM upgrade and now it works like a charm

I bought this laptop for my 15 year old son. I thought that this was a great value for the price and would be a good starter laptop. I spend the whole weekend talking to IBM tech support who charged me for the service and IMing with them and read the trouble shotting manual. It would not connect with our router. I was ready to return the thing but decided to hire a professional who has a IT degree as a last attempt. He charged me by the hour and spend 4 hours reprogramming the laptop to make it compatible with our router. He said it was truly a challenge to him and he does this for a living. Four days later it is not connecting with the internet again yet my HP laptop is working just fine. This laptop is not for the computer challenged person and I am still not sure if we are going to keep it. Maybe I should have spend a little more money to buy a product that really works and will get on the internet. I am very disappointed with the whole deal. It does look brand new but whats the point if it will not function? Overstock is one of the slowest to deliever a product and if you return it you pay for the shipping to send it back.

DVD drive would not read, had to buy new program. Battery stays on forever, even when closed down. Thought about returning it, still may. Luckily, I do not need it for business. Had to have it rebooted with a new window xp pro, operating system didn't work from the get-go. Think I got the bugs worked out, finally. Pretty disappointed due to the last one I got several years ago was great...no problems until someone decided to break in my house and steal all my computors. Not sure if I just got unlucky or if this was a bad deal this time.

CD/DVD drive would not read the included WIFI driver disks or my authorized copy of Office 2007. Read some other data disks, but tended to jam up on CDs and DVDs. Inserting included Cisco WIFI card caused it to freeze. Downloading new drivers from Cisco didn't help. The battery life was on track for about 90 mins even when it was doing nothing. External mouse input non-standard. I wasted hours trying to get this to work. It's a shame because it was lightweight and had nice controls. Getting a free return label was painless online, but now I have to stand in line at the PO during the busiest week of the year.

I have had nothing but problems. It didn't arrive with any discs and wouldn't connect to the internet and was incredibly slow. I have had to have it stripped back and reprogrammed and it has caused me no end of inconvenience. because I am currently visiting England there was no way I could return it.

Excellent value and looks NEW. The computer is an exceptional one and at a great price. Dependability and great IBM support.
