    • PCI Bus:
    • The PCI interface and MPEG encoder uses the Conexant CX23416 chip. The encoder channel uses a DMA controller that is used to bus master data to the host. For control purposes the CX23416 can act as an I2C master to control the Tuner Video Decoder and Audio processor. Additionally various board control functions are provided by some general-purpose IO (GPIO) ports on the CX23416.
    • TV Tuner:
    • The TV tuner section consists of a programmable tuner module and a stereo decoder circuit. These parts are I2C slave devices programmed using transactions created by the Conexant CX23416 chip acting as an I2C bus master.
    • Audio Decoder:
    • The stereo decoder circuit uses the Conexant Mako CX2584X. The analog audio output (or audio from the front panel and rear panel left and right audio inputs) is sampled by a WM8775 stereo ADC at 32 KH, 44.1 KHz or 48 KHz rate and is routed to the Conexant Mako chip as an I2S serial audio stream.
    • Video Decoder:
    • The Conexant Mako CX2584X video decoder uses an advanced chroma filter to minimize video artifacts. This device outputs a CCIR656 digital video stream to the Conexant CX23416 chip MPEG video encoder.
    • MPEG Encoder:
    • The CX23416 chip also operates as an MPEG audio and video encoder in addition to its use as a PCI bus controller and DMA engine.

      When i bought this product, i was mainly intending to play games thru it. However, like most tv tuner cards, there is a significant lag between what you do on the controller and what is observed on the screen.The installation process was fairly easy. i just had to search for the product on-line, and easily installed the software and media player.The attachments are all i would have asked for. It definitely has all the features i would want or need, if only they processed faster. My biggest complaint came when i actually hooked up cable to it. The cable quality was horrible. i have a new high def monitor, but the cable quality was so sub par it made it obsolete. The actual quality of the picture might have been acceptable if there weren't thick diagonal lines across the picture, no matter the channel. As this was the cheapest tuner card on the market, i shouldn't be two surprised. i am definitely considering purchasing a new one, and hope to observe a quality difference.
