I needed an external hard drive to start keeping all of my pictures on from over the years to start clearing up space on my laptop. It is easy to use and it serves the purpose it was intended for. It is also very slim and does not take much space up at all. Overall, I am happy with my purchase and it has met my expectations, especially for the price.

I bought this hard drive to accommodate my new system. Decided to seperate my drives/partitions based on how I'd use the system, 1TB for Games, 1TB for Programs, 1TB for Media, and this drive for the Operating System. The hard drive rated 5.9 on the Windows 7 experience, with the jumper set at 3.0gb/s. Fast hard drive, and it's quiet! I normally wouldn't buy Seagate hard drives, but this is an enterprise series, so it's built better than the other units.

I took my hard drive out of my broken laptop and put it in this SATA Hard Drive Enclosure and it works beautiful. Not only can I access all my files from my old laptop, I can also backup new ones. I just plug it into my pc or my new laptop and use it for an external backup system. For the price it is amazing.

I had a computer that crashed. This was my backup drive that I stored all my data on. I took it out of the old computer but I had bought a laptop and still wanted the data. So I got this case, put the hard drive in, and now use it as an external drive connected by the USB connection. Lifesaver!

This was the best price I could find on this hard drive enclosure. I had it up and running in less than 10 minutes and was able to scan my netbook's hard drive for viruses using my desktop computer. As a result I was able to remove those nasty viruses, spyware, and malware. I could not have done this without the hard drive enclosure from Overstock.com!

Great price for an amazing external HD. Plenty of space and not noisy like some external hard drives I've used.

I purchased this Seagate external hard drive in order to backup my ASUS Windows 7 laptop. However, every time I tried to perform a backup, I got a message stating that backup had failed because of an "I/O device error." When I Googled this issue, I realized that this is a manufacturing defect in Seagate external hard drives. They are incompatible with Windows backup. Since I bought this item for expressly that purpose, it's basically useless to me. Therefore, it's being returned. Steer clear of this Seagate external hard drive if you're planning on using it to back up a Windows PC!

This product was exactly what I needed. An inexpensive casing for my hard drive after my motherboard went out on my computer. Very easy to use. Might want to have your own screwdriver. The one that came with it didn't hold up. That was minor.

For the price you can't go wrong with this enclosure. It's works really well, is simple setup and nice looking. I didn't have to use the screw pack, just pop in the hard drive an the case snaps shut. I'm very happy with this purchase.

I bought this to test out the hard disk from my in-law's laptop. It sure came in handy. The drive fit nicely without using any screws, and the device was recognized and usable right away after plugging it in via USB.

I was nervous about attempting to use the hard drive from an older computer in this way. I've always been good at taking things apart - not so good at putting back together. It couldn't have been any easier. Following the instructions included, I removed the HD, popped it into the enclosure, formatted to remove the old operating system, and it worked beautifully! I use it as an external drive for video and audio file storage and for backups.

Very easy to use, even for me . . . the non computer user. I bought this to save the files on my mom's computer. My mom used to do electronic scrap booking. She had over 81,000 files on her computer. That amount of files barely put a dent in the amount of space on this hard drive. Great purchase.

Within 5 minutes of opening this hard drive, I was backing-up my computer! The unit allows me to do other things while it works! Any one from beginner on will have no problem using this unit. Seagate has given us another quality product! This unit will provide my storage needs for years to come!

Small, quiet (many are not!), sleek device with a large capacity. Let's face it, all these things fail eventually. Irreplaceable files need to be stored on more than one device. This one is no bigger than my first, which only held 500MB. Lies flat on non-skid rubber feet - ready for stacking another one. Best price I've seen for 3T of storage. I have an older, 1T (same brand) that cost almost as much. Quick transfer speed, but that probably has more to do with the new computer than the external hard drive itself. "Plug and play" - easy and straight forward to use. Comes well packaged (double boxed) with all necessary plugs/cables. Recommended.

It is a very good product and gets a lot of use. I had to backup stuff and it really helped.
There are distinct advantages to using multiple hard drives on a single computer. More hard drives allow you to store more programs, photos, music and other data. A second external hard drive or a backup internal hard drive can save your data from being lost if your other hard disk fails. Here are some steps for installing multiple hard drives on the same machine.
Your computer's abilities are mostly determined by how much storage space its hard drive has available. Hard drives store the operating systems, settings, and computer programs that your computer uses. To get the most out of your computer, it helps to know the answers to some frequently asked questions about hard drives.
Hard drives are a standard feature on all computers. These electronic libraries store the software and files that your computer operates. This hard drive buying guide includes basic concepts and features that will help you to find a compatible hard drive to store important files, photos and music on your computer.
Installing an internal hard drive is often a more complex procedure than most computer users are comfortable with. If you need extra storage space but don't want to crack open your computer's case, buy an external hard drive instead. External hard drives connect directly to one of your computer's ports and allow you to either backup old data or store entirely new files. There are many different specifications to consider when shopping for a new external hard drive.
Most electronics don't require much attention, and your computer's hard drive is no different; yet there are a few things you can do to maintain your hard disk and protect the data that you store on it. Here are some tips for making sure that your hardware lasts.
Your computer's hard drive is one of the most basic and vital components. It holds all of your data and entirely determines how many files you can store. This hard drive glossary will help expand your knowledge of hard drive features and options for your computer.
Perhaps you've heard that RAID can be used to increase the performance of your hard drives. Or perhaps you've heard that you can use RAID to increase the reliability of your hard drives. Both of these are possible, thanks to the various ways that you can use RAID in your computer. Some RAID configurations are targeted towards enterprise environments that require the highest fault tolerance (at a high cost), but some of the RAID levels can be used by home users, using inexpensive equipment, to achieve significant gains. The first step to using RAID is to decide which RAID level you want to use. Each RAID level defines a different configuration of how data is read and written to the hard drives and what fault-tolerance features are employed; for example, one RAID level may just provide higher performance while another level will also provide fault tolerance. When it comes to RAID, most of the work is done by an expansion card called a RAID controller; this controller may be a stand-alone card, or it may be built into your computer's motherboard. Many motherboards include a controller that can do either RAID level 0 (also called RAID0) or RAID 1 and possibly a few other RAID levels.
Some older computers have smaller hard drives that fill up quickly with software, music, videos and games. When your hard disk fills up, it may be time to upgrade to a larger, faster internal hard drive. But how do you get all of your files and software to new hard drives? We walk you through the steps below.
When you're looking to add a new hard drive to your computer, you have the choice of adding an internal hard drive or an external hard drive. Internal hard drives are installed inside your computer, and external hard drives are connected to your computer via USB or Firewire or some similar connection. External hard drives typically have their own case, called an enclosure; this enclosure is what allows the hard drive to connect to your computer's USB or Firewire ports. If you were to open the enclosure, you would probably find a hard drive identical to a typical internal hard drive.
As software becomes more complex and more multimedia-based content becomes available on the Internet, the space on your hard drive can fill up quickly. If you create your own content, such as videos or music, sufficient hard drive space is absolutely necessary to back up your data in case it is ever lost or compromised. Having enough space on your hard drive also allows the computer to run more efficiently, as performance can be compromised as free hard drive space becomes scarce. This article will help you determine how much space is left on your hard drive and whether you need to add an external hard drive to your system. If an external hard drive is necessary, you will also learn what to look for in one.

When you browse the large selection of laptops here on Overstock.com, you may see this icon that labels them as "refurbished." A refurbished laptop is either a computer that has been returned to the retailer or manufacturer for a refund by a customer or a computer that has just come off a lease. The computer may have had a slight defect or simply not met a customer's expectations. Before a laptop can be resold, any defective components are repaired or replaced and the computer is then carefully examined to ensure it works properly. Any computer that goes through this process must be identified as refurbished or reconditioned. Refurbished laptops can be a bargain compared to some new models, but it's important to make a few comparisons first to make sure you're getting a good deal.
