Hard Drives

The world's first computer was ENIAC--a 30-ton monster with a memory measured in bits (8 bits = 1 byte). Want to add more computer memory to that monster? Simply build another monster! In the last six decades, electronics have changed, especially computers. Every laptop computer and desktop computer now has a hard drive measured in gigabytes (1GB=8,000,000,000 bits!). Fortunately, at Overstock.com, their price isn't measured in giga-bucks!
How do you use your personal computer? For normal home computers used for emails, surfing the web, balancing your checkbook, etc., manufacturer hard drives of 20GB to 60GB are enough. Using your computer more--for music and video downloads, computer games, office software--means you need more computer memory or a new computer. New memory is less expensive, especially when you buy it from Overstock.com.
Computer equipment choices include new internal hard drives or external hard drives plus hard drive enclosures.
Adding an internal hard drive may not be a do-it-yourself operation, but people smart enough to shop at Overstock.com are smart enough to download and follow instructions. Bigger internal hard drives are more convenient for those with limited space. Or, just plug an external hard drive into a wall outlet and USB port and go. External hard drives can be unplugged from the computer when not in use, which adds to data security--if it isn't connected, no hacker or virus can get at it!
Additionally, a hard drive enclosure may be designed to allow a removable hard drive (good for security) or add space for new computer memory plus extra USB ports, a card reader or other cool stuff. If you need to carry a lot of data with you, the smallest hard drive is the USB flash drive. Also called USB flash memory or compact flash memory, this thumb-sized hard drive can carry a few gigabytes or many gigabytes at a very reasonable price.
Oh, right, this is Overstock.com--everything is reasonably priced.
