HP EliteBook 8770w C6Y81UT Experiance Sofar
from Albuquerque, NM,  Jun 12, 2013

First of all HP Computers are generally solid performers and this computer is one of those. It has some good features and some bad ones. I am using this computer to replace a desktop do to space restrictions and economy per performance. I have the laptop connected to an Acer 23” wide-screen LCD monitor and a wireless Logitech Wave keyboard. I designed a platform for the keyboard that places it above the laptop. There is currently enough room to keep the lid open so that the computer doesn’t shutdown, but it’s tight so I have to redesign the platform. The keyboard on the laptop is lighted which can be adjusted or turned off. There are other custom quick-keys that are common to other MFGs. One feature I missed was on reawaken on key press was not included, on a earlier Pavilion model you could awake the computer just by pressing a pre designated key like space. On this computer you have to press the power key button in the usual location. This computer comes with all kinds of security options that boggle the mind but are optional per user preferences. I always thought that HP overdid it on the help-troubleshoot utility too. I like the KISS principle. One nice feature is the power plug jack is in the rear. Plenty of USBs except when I go into sleep mode none of them power down like on the Pavilion it replaces. The laptop has adequate cooling but like other MFGs they don’t have a filter on the intake. Another thing I would like to see is screw mounts for the VGA connector like on regular desktop systems. When I tried to get into the BIOS I could not change any of the settings, not sure why. You can load BIOS upgrades at the hardware level which I recommend for error free, disastrous crashes. The only extra software was Roxio Burn and MS Office 2010. The usual windows games where missing but you can always transfer them from another system. LCD screen was good as way the sound also. On my limited experience with laptop systems this seemed like a very good performer but I got this model due to reviews on it and it has a modem. One thing I would like to see on laptops would be a detachable LCD screen so that you could use an external monitor without it getting in the way. The closest innovation to the are the IPAD clones but I don’t know if they have provisions for external connections.
