We got this one because of reviews on Overstock and other sources. It was the right price for the features. I really wanted to have one that named the streets - which we found is important. We messed around with trying the various voice options and forgot to put it back on the TTL text to language option - which includes naming of the streets. It makes a difference in response time to have street names called out when it comes time to turn. Otherwise it says, "in 1/8th of a mile turn right" Well I'm not a good gauge of distance and without the TTL I was turning sooner than I was suppose to. Once I realized the TTL wasn't turned on we had no more driving errors. The voice is loud enough and clear enough. I think those who say otherwise might have cars that have a lot of internal road noise on the inside of their vehicle. I also bought the latch device that hooks on to the air vents instead of the window - love it. Bought two - one to travel with and one to keep in my car. I found that my iPhone connection cords can be used to connect the GPS to the computer to update it. So all is good. I recommend it.

will find the shortest route, not necessary the quickest....... but when in the big city... kept me from losing what little hair I have left.........

I PURCHASED THE GARMIN 255 AND I LOVE IT. I NEEDED IT FOR A TRIP TO NORTH CAROLINA AND IT WORKED PERFECTLY. ESPECIALLY COMING HOME THRU WASHINGTON D.C. I COULD HAVE NEVER DONE IT WITHOUT THE GARMIN. I've used every brand of GPS on the market that I can think of, and have always had problems with all of them one way or another (wrong location, POI not where GPS says it is, etc.). The first GPS I used was a Garmin and I hated it, so I tried other stuff. That was about 3 years ago. Since trying other company's devices, I've decided to give Garmin another shot, and I tell you I am not let down with this device. Very accurate directions, cool features like the Eco-Drive Challenge (a fun little game you can play with yourself while driving long distances alone.... keeps me busy), allows me to enter current gas prices and tells me on average what I spend on gas per trip and total since I got the GPS. Also has built-in traffic which with the other devices they wanted me to pay for. And the one thing the Garmin has that no other device I've used has is the trip statistics (or whatever they call them). Tells your average speed, miles traveled, time moving/stopped, etc. You can reset for every trip or do like I do and let it go for the life of the unit. It's interesting to see how far you've gone and how much gas you've spent. As far as a GPS, this device is a win. And with the extra features built-in since I last used a Garmin, it puts it over the top. Plus the window holder works, which is more than I can say for other units. Great purchase! Would definitely recommend and buy Garmin again.

i am extremely directionality challenged. n then past i had owned a navigator that simply told me to turn onto streets without giving the name of the street and without fair warning. this NUVI 255W does it all...... telling you when to turn plenty in advance and giving the exact name of the street or highway. i feel more confident and less stressed when venturing out on the roads. thanks!!!

This is a great GPS. I have been shopping for one for a long time and never felt comfortable about buying any of the others. When I saw this one, what grabbeed my attention was the size of the display. It is easy to see and read and the audio is loud enough to hear clearly. When it tells you to make a turn, it gives the street name and the direction of the turn, then immediately tells you the direction of the next turn so you can get in the correct lane.Set up was easy, not much to it. The price is definitely worth the product. Garmin products have not failed me yet.

Well I am not getting lost any more... only one concern after mounting the Garmin on the window it fell off.

Easy to see, map updates available, user friendly, better than any other GPS units- as reported to me by friend owners of other brands, while riding with me. Friends often call me for directions.

I had spent the last year tring to find the Right gps for me! yes a year is a long time but im very fickle! i did however determin through my research that the Garmin makes the best gps for the amount of money so most of my year was spent searching for the perfect Garmin for me! and by golly i think i found it!!!! I use to have onstar roadside assistance only because i would get lost weekly in fact i think they just got use to me calling and would send bets around on how soon it would be before i would call again! before each trip even one as simple as going to the store i would have panic attacks because i knew i would get lost at least once... onstar worked for the most part but its kind of embarrassing to have to stay on the phone and get step by step instructions to my location. I can proudly say with Garmin Nuvi 255W i have not got lost once! and with the extremely user friendly touch screen and fun voices you can download it makes driving a lot less stressful and fun! I would suggest this product to anyone and everyone even to those who were given a good sense of direction... i mean you cant tell me you have NEVER taken a wrong turn or two :)

Love this Garmin! It's easy to use. We rely on it when going out of town. I highly recommend it.

I just received my Garmin Nuvi 255W about 3 weeks ago and have been testing it around town. This is just what I needed for when I am traveling alone or to new destinations. No more pulling to the side of the road to check out my Thomas Guide to find out where I should of made that last turn. No more trying to glance at directions or trying to remember certain on or exit ramps. If you miss a turn, this Garmin Nuvi 255W GPS will quickly recalculate the next routing so fast, there is no time to think or panic about missing that turn. The instructions are very clear, you can choose which pre-programmed voice you want to guide you and the best part is it's easy to figure out and to use. Just know that there is no USB computer cord that allows you to hook the unit up to your computer, but you may already have a spare cord if you have a digital camera, or other type cords around the house. I also did not receive a wall cord charger, but I have a spare from one of my cell phones. Make sure that you register your GPS with Garmin and they will give you a one time re-load to the newest maps available on their site. I cannot wait for my next big road trip coming up. I would recommend this product to any and everyone considering this purchase, I LOVE IT! This is one of my best purchases from Overstock, who naturally also had the best price!

I recieved my Garmin GPS in good condition and after reading the directions through quickly I found the GPS very easy to figure out. I really like the feature that offer what is in the area if you are looking for something specific.. The only hang up I had with the purchase was that after a few days I did find a**** had the same GPS for about $**** cheaper which was a disappointment because I thought overstock sold items cheaper than any place else.. So if you are interested in something think about it for a couple days check all the areas for sales on the item to make sure it's not cheaper someplace else.. Otherwise I am very happy with the GPS and would recommend it..

A great help. My only issue with the device is that it is difficult to hit the correct keys.

Having been a satisfied customer of "O" for several years, it was no surprise to me when I ordered and received the Garmin Nuvi 255W Portable GPS Navigator in factory sealed box. The unit is exactly what my daughter wanted and is completely satisfied. No complaints!!! Yea... One suggestion I have for "O" is try using the United States Postal Service for small items such as the GPS units. The USPS is much, much faster delivery than UPS. UPS takes up to 7 days to deliver and the USPS takes only 3 days.

I love the Garmin GPS units. I have been researching GPS units for awhile and finally decided to buy this model. It is easy to use and a great price! Very happy with my purchase.

Did not like the idea of having to down load product info and directions for usage,

I have seen and played with a couple of the same units earlier this year and was surprised how easy it was to use even for a first timer. I actually bought this one for myself but my son's mother in law was needing one by the weekend for a trip. So I let her have it. She was very pleased it worked great for her and she had never been around one before. This unit is far more that just middle of the line model. I would not hesitate to recommend this unit. The Overstock.com price was at least $100 less that what several stores were asking. The Points of Interest is a Great feature. The audio was loud and clear. It gives you plenty of time to make your turns. I really like the Speed indicator . Over all Great Product.
