My dad got this one for me as a gift, I kept getting lost driving around Los Angeles. Have been using it for a while now, and while it has kept me from getting lost, I have a couple complaints/comments. 1) It takes a long time once you turn it on to find the satelite signal. My mom has a Garmin, and hers is much quicker. It can take 5 min or longer sometimes, and when you're driving, that can equal a long way in the wrong direction. 2) I don't know if other navs give you this option, but when entering a desitination, you have to search by city and get it dead on, or the system can't find an address. For example, Sunset Boulevard is a very long street in Los Angeles, and runs through several zip codes, but its unclear to the public (and even MapQuest) when the city names change. Could be Hollywood or Los Angeles, or North Hollywood. Especially addresses right on the borders of areas can be hard to find. 3) It seems to avoid side streets, and even when you choose shortest route, it doesn't always give you the most direct route. 4) It would be nice if when narrating directions, instead of just saying "Turn left in 600 feet", it would say "Turn left in 600 ft on to Main Street." The Garmin my mom has does that. It's clearer for the driver that way.
So anyway, those are just a couple things. Like I said, it keeps me from getting lost, but if I'd been getting this for my self, I wouldn't have chosen this model. Also, if you want to update the map software, its several hundred dollars for the discs.

I used the Pioneer AVIC-S1 when I moved from Phoenix, AZ to Baltimore, MD. It worked great! I do not think I would have made it across the country with out getting lost once or twice without the AVIC-S1. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone looking for a stylish navigation unit. I looked at the other ones currently on the market, but none of them looked as sleek as this one. I feel that it was a great choice.
Buy one and see for yourself!

I actually bought this for my husband who is a salesman needing to travel to mines out in nowheresville.
His old Garmin broke and they could no longer refurbish it. I decided this one looked so easy and was so inexpensive, why not give it a try? He loves it!
It's great that is is portable and has its own little case.
I used to get mad when he'd put the old one on and use it while I was in the car. This one is great and I have fun using it too. I am a Realtor and have asked him for one for Christmas.
This was a great choice and is amazingly accurate.
