Flatbed Scanners

Electronics are replacing mechanical things everywhere, and many of us now need files in digital form or we can't use them properly. When you get hard copy and need to digitize it, you need scanners. (Like when need to save money, you need Overstock.com.) Scanners are like copiers except that they output a data file instead of a piece of paper.
Scanners come in a variety of models suited to the needs of a variety of users. The most common type is flatbed scanners, so called because it's a scanner with a large flat plate of glass on which the page to be scanned lays. These are the general purpose scanners, good for documents and photos, large or small. Additionally, document scanners may be designed specifically to read text documents. For those with loads of slides or transparencies, film scanners are specialized units designed for non-paper items. If you travel often, handheld scanners can bring the convenience of the home or office computer on the road. Are you a member of Club O? Well, then, buy one of each scanner--you'll save a boatload on shipping!
Flatbed scanners look and work like copiers: place the page on the glass, press the button and don't look directly at the bright light. A computer scanner's features vary, along with price; if it meets your needs it is the right scanner for you. If you need a big color flatbed scanner, then buy it and don't worry about the price (not that you ever have to worry about prices when you shop at Overstock.com) .
A portable digital scanner, small enough to take almost anywhere, works well with laptops. This can be a slim desktop scanner or even a handheld scanner. These scanner models are often powered via their USB connection and as light as one pound. They are as handy as they are affordable.

What a total POS. I scanned less tan 100 slides and the bulb failed. I have the skill set to replace the bulb but you can't buy one. HP offers an exchange service but the price for an exchange is more than the unit cost. Why would I consider a replacement unit when I hate the unit I bought? The software that comes with this scanner is also well below industry standards. It is cumbersome and slow. I'm not surprised to see this unit being unloaded by many on line services - it's pretty obvious the scanner is a *** I have been an HP customer for decades but they are now at the bottom of my list. Can you say ZERO support.

  • Will not scan pages longer than 14".

As previous poster stated the scanner will not scan a document longer than 14". It will error out and give you a paper jam code, so there is no way to even scan the 14" of the document then scan the other side and paste. HP customer support was less than helpful. I was told they would look into changing the spec sheets and talking to their retail partners. After a year it is still being sold on many retailer sites as scanning up to 34". If you scan receipts, you are bound to scan one that is longer than 14"

I have bought this product to scan A3 documents and I find it very practical and easy to use. It also included an OCR software , drag and drop where you can convert all your documents into WORD Documents !!! this is great.

Not all that pleased with this one, the cost of the device comes with the expectation that you get something without major downsides. I can list some glaring ones. For starters, I have to restart my PC to get the software to recognize the scanner after being idle. This is incredibly inconvenient and a terrible failure on Fujitsu's part. This is with all the troubleshooting they recommend, which boils down to trying different USB ports, and reinstalling the software. A lot of the time documents get misaligned (Receipts in particular) and do not feed correctly, entering the scanner straight and falling into an angle. While the scanner software does correct and straighten documents scanned crooked, it only detects documents coming through the center of the feed tray and stops a scan prematurely if the receipt has fallen out of that sensors view. Keeping the document or receipt straight in the feed tray is very difficult, even with the guides. When feeding a document 14 inches or long...
