Flash Drives
It's portable, it's versatile, it's durable...it's Superman! No, but it's an easy mistake to make -- it's a USB flash drive, the latest generation of blank media. If you're short on space in your computer, USB flash drives are a great way to expand your memory capacity. Of course, if you buy at Overstock.com, expanding your memory doesn't mean contracting your wallet.
Magnetic tape came first, followed by floppy disks, then blank CD media and blank DVD media. Like the rest of the electronics industry, computer storage media has changed so fast over the past generation, it may seem impossible to keep up. The flash drive is the latest and simplest to use because every new computer has a USB port. Just insert the compact flash memory into the port and you're ready to go.
The USB flash drive is a developing technology. The first (256MB capacity) USB flash memory sticks have grown to gigabytes, many gigabytes. Still way to pricey for the average user, these super-size USB flash drives are sure to come down in price -- and they'll do that a lot faster at Overstock.com than at your local retail store! A smaller capacity flash drive can be had at a very good price and serve just as well; after all, how many of us really need to carry 64GB around in your pocket?
By the way, a USB flash drive is just a chip and a connector in a casing. This casing makes USB flash drives almost impervious to scratches and dust (serious problems for discs), and they are estimated at 100,000 rewrite cycles or more (discs run 1,000 to 10,000). A flash drive has even survived a washing machine cycle and recovered after drying out -- not that we recommend you abuse your technology this way. The case can also make it very personal; compact flash memory sticks come in every color and in the shape of cars, food, cartoon characters and more. If you need portable, versatile, durable blank media for your computer, a USB flash memory drive is definitely a "don't leave home without it" component.
