Good camera quality, but auto focus is hit or miss

I have been a Canon camera guy since 1983 and alway true to the brand. As a professional photographer, I expect a lot from a camera and unfortunately, the 7D fails as it relates to the system's auto focus features. In spot focus mode, it's a great camera, but in AF (full auto focus) the images appear soft and out of focus, even though the camera has achieved a focal point. I had to return my camera back to Canon to be adjusted and while much improved, the issue still lingers in some images, even with the use of a tripod in bright light. Cameras in the lesser expensive Canon Rebel lineup seem to achieve a better auto focus than this model, including the T3i and the 450D.
While Canon was certainly able to reduce this problem within my individual camera, I would have expected more from a Prosumer camera model aimed at the pro and pro/consumer market. While the 19 focal points are a great idea, Canon needs to go back to the drawing board on this model.
