I did a lot of research on this camera and compared it to the 5100. I definitely love the viewfinder on this camera because it has a sensor where it turns off the screen, so it kind of saves battery power. Overall, it's an awesome camera who is looking into photography or just wants to make memories last.

This is my 3rd Sony P&S camera and by far the best.. I have owned SLR but wanted the versatility of the 50X zoom, and the CMOS chip. I just took pictures of my grandson 's graduation shooting from the stands about a hundred feet away for a close-up of his face and the image was great but what blew my mind was it picked up a single wild blond hair of the girl next to him. Amazing detail, excellent color, great viewfinder - I really like the camera. I shot a recent baseball game in which he pitched using the 11 frames per second and froze his pitch halfway between him and the batter. I also find the 11 F/S great for street photography with people for it allows you to catch some very interesting facial expressions. I belong to a camera club with some members using very expensive SLRs and lens. I have found I can compete with them because of the HX400V's versatility. Don't have to change lens to catch a changing scene so I have gotten shots others missed on field trips. Bugs some that my $450 camera competes with their $5-10K rigs. My first digital camera was a Minolta which Sony bought and has continually increased the quality and cutting edge features. I've found Nikon and Canon users are rally amazed at Sony's quality products. You can download the camera guide book from Sony's site to print out a larger easier to read instruction manual. Read the manual and you will be delighted with all this camera can do. I consistently print 11x17 inch inkjet images of my selected pictures that are very sharp and colorful with great quality and win club awards. So this camera is a real deal for the money.

Had my doubts about this camera, it is not a name brand you see every day.. for those that are in serious doubt this camera has it all, pictures are better than you would expect... ...

I really like this camera. I took it on vacation and it took some great photos in daylight and night, as well as from a moving boat and a moving bus. I had upgraded from a Lumix DMC-FZ35, so it was pretty easy to learn how to use, but had some new features which made it even more useful. I love the articulating LCD! This is my go to travel camera now - sufficient zoom and wide angle for most of the shots I take as an amateur, and the battery life is great. I took over 1500 photos in two weeks so really put it thru the test. My only complaint is the SilkyPix software- still haven't figured it out and I can't open the RAW pictures in my version of Photoshop, but it may just be an upgrade is needed. This is a good compromise camera for those not ready for a full DSLR, but want more than a pocket camera.

This is awesome. The picture quality is so clear. I like the way the camera fits my hand, and the second lens is nice for those distant shots with an awesome zoom. Still learning all the things I can do with this camera and the other lenses and filters. I highly recommend this, as well as buying the bag specifically for this camera.
