  • Poor service & quality control from joy systems

    Apr 21, 2014

    reno58  from Venice, Florida, Rating:2.0

Quality control is surely lacking at Joy Systems. The price is right and the value is ok, if you have the time to wait on hold for literally hours while finding out how to have your computer replaced. The 1st computer they sent, the disc drive didn't work at all and there were error reports at start-up. After OVER two hours on hold, they replaced it with no problem. The 2nd computer has error messages @ start-up also. (something about air temp sensor not working properly) I hit F1 and it boots, However the case is cracked and there is no sound. I guess they figure for only $. their customers may overlook poor quality. Once you spend enough time troubleshooting your refurbished computer yourself, It works fine, BUT If you want something like new out of the box...don't buy a refurbished computer from Joy Systems (Overstock.com)

the computer that I bought was terrible, kept shutting down and freezing, and one morning I woke up and turned it on and it configured 150 configurations that I did not do, it was a mess, so I got in contact with overstock.com,and I told them what was happening, and I wanted to return it,and asked if they could pick the unit up and ups was here the next day and got a full refund, I am going to get another one in hopes that this one run well, this will be my 3rd unit from overstock.com

  • HP Compaq 8100 Elite is a winner

Outstanding combo of a no-nonsense OS with Win7Pro64 and an i7 QuadCore Multithreading CPU produces blazing performance. Throw in 1 TB storage and you're good to go.

  • Takes Only Half-Height Cards

    Apr 15, 2014

    dropscrew  from Austin, TX, Rating:5.0

Computer is a real value. Not being familiar with every Dell model, I just researched to see if there was an open slot for my video card with dual monitor outputs - and there was. BUT, this case is so narrow/short that it only takes half-height cards in the PCIe slot. So a regular video card will not fit. You should be aware of this when considering this model. Another note: the "keyboard" that is included with the computer was carefully packed but smashed. It doesn't matter that much because I have my own wireless keyboard and mouse. If the refurbisher would leave off the not-needed-for-the-most-part mouse and keyboard, they could knock a few more dollars off the price. Otherwise, the computer works great.

I bought one of these to use as a media and occasional gaming PC. The unit hasn't had any hardware problems, case looks cool and it's not overly loud (but not exactly quiet.) It has a nice gaming keyboard and mouse but the GPU is just not powerful enough to handle real gaming and this unit is sold as a gaming PC. I fired up mass effect 2 with the unit hooked to my HDTV and it had to shrink the screen quite a bit in order to run. If I expand the screen to full screen, it has too much hesitation. Portal 2 on steam worked well full screen with full motion. I imagine an upgrade to the GPU would fix this, but haven't done much research yet. The unit does well as a media PC but it's just not quite powerful enough for gaming.
