High end low price
 from minnesota,  Oct 21, 2009

This is the cheapest most expensive component I currently have on my rack . Its true that mostly all bdp's have the same picture quality once they get to the over $200 mark . What I find the denon brings to the table is less digital noise on the screen . I do see a marginal improvement of color and shadow detail in those very dark black scenes on movies wilst viewing on the projector (I have it tuned to ifc d65)when compared to ps3 .These differences mentioned become less evident on my 42

Amazing Player
 from SC,  Sep 9, 2009

This player was $800 last year. At this price it's nothing short of amazing. Be aware that it has no audio or video outs except the one HDMI. If that's what you need, it's got great picture and sound.

Built like a tank!
 from NC,  Aug 31, 2009

I was surprised at the size and heft of this player. When you first pick it up, you immediately realize that it isn't your average player... it is very large and very heavy. It feels like a very high quality piece of gear. The first thing I did was upgrade to the latest firmware from the Denon site. I was fortunate that I have Roxio Creator, because apparently either that or Nero are required to burn the firmware DVD (you can't use the native burning software in Windows). I burned the CD with Roxio and had no trouble upgrading the firmware from there. The player has worked flawlessly on all Blu rays, DVDs and CDs so far. As other have said, be aware that there is only HDMI out, so no component, etc. Overall a very nice and well built piece of equipment.

NO HDMI Cord Included
 from Valley Village,CA,  May 5, 2010

I would have given this 5 stars if I knew in advanced that I would need to make an additional purchase for the HDMI cord. When I received it I was excited. Then realized I had to wait a little longer to actually use it because the HDMI cord was not included. Overstock should tell customers this at the time of purchase. The price was definitely a steal. The unit is built like a truck. Blu Rays play wonderfully (just takes a little long to load) sound and picture are AWESOME. DVD's even play with great clarity. Much better than my other DVD player. In addition since Overtsock doesn't tell you, YOU DO NOT NEED A Receiver. Just hook it up with an HDMI cord to your HD tv, plug it up and it's ready to go. Also get your HDMI cord from Overstock. I paid $$$ bucks and it took about 3 days to receive. If you don't buy one online you will pay $50 bucks or more for HDMI cord in any store (Best Buy, Circuit City,Radio Shack etc.) when one for $$$ bucks works just fine.

superb Blu-ray/DVD transport
from Bridgeport, CT,  May 4, 2010

I got a refurbished Denon AVR-590 at the same time and this transport works perfectly with it. HDMI connection offers very easy set-up. As mentioned, the "upscaling" of standard DVDs is excellent. Audio and video performance both outstanding. This is an incredible value for the price and I am very glad I managed to get one! I have an Onkyo TX-SR 706 with an Oppo BDP-83 in another set-up, and the Denon combination is fully its equal, except Denon DVD-2500BTCI does not play SACD.

I had just purchased a Denon Receiver last year AVR689 and thought this would be great to go along with it. It's a great DVD player but too advanced for my receiver. Becuase the only output is one HDMI my receiver is only capable of getting the video through he HDMI connection and requires separate audio outputs which this does not have. Make sure your receiver is fully compatable in that respect. Luckily my flat screen has a digital audio output so I just run the DVD to the tv and the audio from the TV to the Receiver. The only thing I'll miss out on is being able to use the simcard to store music and run that directly to the receiver. Otherwise an excellent purchase, just one step ahead of my receiver.

Great
 from Nevada,  Apr 12, 2010

I'm the moron that paid $1000 for this player when it was released. For *** bucks- this is a steal. If you have a high end receiver this Blu-ray player has everything you'll need. If you need or wish to run 5.1 or 7.1 analog- this receiver will not work. Only buy it if you want to bitstream audio via HDMI. Like most Denon products, it is SOLID. You can easily feel/tell the construction difference between this and other popular Blu-ray players (Panasonic/Samsung.) Those brands, while able to display nice pictures, feel cheap and flimsy. The Denon chassy is top notch. It does not, however, have any of the new bells and whistles that newer players do. No Pandora or Netflix streaming. If you only want a solid player with great audio and video via one simple HDMI cable- buy this. And don't buy an expensive Monster cable- buy a simple 10 dollar cable that will do the exact same thing for a fraction of the cost.

Well worth it
from Charlotte, NC,  Mar 12, 2010

I thought my JVC DVD player did a good job of converting to 1080p this one blows the jvc out of the water! The picture is so clear for a standard dvd and the sound is excellent processed through a denon receiver.

best buy for the money
from Redmond, WA,  Sep 5, 2009

You just can't go wrong with Denon. It simply performs as stated. Fast load, quite operations, multitude of formats. We just love it! I think this is the best electronic gadget we ever have, which greatly complement our 50" plasma.
