Ubuntu ready
Skipped the XP and went straight for an Ubuntu 12.04 install. Everything is working great, and is blazing fast.

O.K. for the money; NOT thoroughly refurbished
The basic unit was an O.K. deal for the price; nice upgrade to 500G HDD. Cosmetically pretty clean; a few minor scuffs on the top and some scratches on the left side panel (fortunately turned toward the wall in my setup). HOWEVER, there were a few sources of irritation: 1. The XP Pro OS was the old 2002 version and 100+ updates had not been done -- I would have expected downloading and installing the latest updates to be part of the "refurbishment" process. 2. The DVD+/-RW drive was useless as anything other than a CD drive because there was no DVD file decoder software installed, rendering the drive unable to read a DVD, much less write one. ( Inexcusable oversight as this software is available for FREE download.) 3. There was no PDF reader software installed (again, something easily downloaded for FREE). 4. Bios not upgraded to current version (AGAIN a FREE download). ??? Seems the company that "refurbished" these units did little more than clean them, install bigger HDD's and DVD+/-RW drives and box them up. Didn't take the time to upgrade the software at all. 5. Document enclosed from the refurbisher stated that systems loaded with XP included an installed trial version of Microsoft Office, but this was not the case on this machine. Overall I consider myself lucky to have received a system whose basic components all seem to work once the needed software was installed, but I don't have a very high opinion of anyone who would call a system "refurbished" unless it included necessary software for all of the components to work "out of the box". For this reason I would not recommend this item to a friend unless I knew that person to be sufficiently computer-savvy to locate and install the necessary software themselves. Anyone expecting this to be a "plug and play" system is in for a big disappointment.

Good Machine, Good Value
I needed a PC running XP Professional and this one fit the bill. The machine arrived in excellent condition and ran flawlessly right out of the box. It runs much faster than the Pentium 4 Dell that it replaced. Overall, very happy with the Optiplex and with Overstock.com

The computers were clean on the outside but dusty on the inside. No way were they refurbished. They did work fine, however.

Dell Optiplex 745 Core 2
I could not get on the internet no matter what. It was discovered that the computer didn't have all the drivers necessary to make it operate properly. After much back and forth with technical support, they finally sent a recovery disk which solved the problem. All of this took about two weeks, quite slow. I would have overnighted the disk if it were me. So, I'm starting out with the computer in a very low state of confidence with it. Perhaps time will help me overcome. At least it has a one year warranty

Dell Optiplex Good Value
Since I use a Dell Optiplex at work, (where they are typically powered on 24/7), I am comfortable with the reliability of them. This was a good value for me since I wanted a desktop that also had a full size PCI slot (for a graphics card that I own). Most new PCs typically have PCI-express slots and don't take full size graphics cards. The PC powers up very quickly and works fine and is fast enough for my use. The only con is that it uses the older DDR2 memory rather than the most common DDR3 memory and the ddr2 ram costs about twice the price of DDR3 ram. SInce a new decent PC can be bought for about $100 more than this (in small form factor), this may not be ideal for everyone. It just depends on your needs.

Excellent computer
My computer finally died and I didn't want to spend a hole a lot of money to replace it. After looking at Best Buys and Fry's I decided to check out Overstock and I found this computer. It had really good reviews. I decided to take my chances and purchase this computer. It took about 10 days to get in, but it was well worth the wait. The computer looked brand new even though it was a advertised refurbished. No, it didn't come in the original package, but who cares. It's fast, reliable and extremely quiet. Like any new computer it took a bit to set up so might not be for the first time computer user. I couldn't be happier. If you are just looking for a computer to get on the internet or do some home computing this couldn't be more perfect. I will definitely look at overstock.com first before checking the big box stores.

This is an awesome computer that deserves 5 stars! But it gets 1 demerit for having a VGA only, with no DVI! I have an LG LCD monitor with a DVI imput! This is your best buy, however!

Good system for the price!
So far happy with the product. This is probably the 10th Optiplex we've purchased from Overstock in the last two years (we're a small business of 50 employees), no issues thus far. Have checked many other sites and Overstock always has the best price. Good system for the price!
