An excellent camera!
Bought this camera a few weeks ago and took it to a vacation on one of the Caribbean islands. So far I am very happy with this purchase. I am a very picky camera user and own few other point and shoots and DSLRs. However, from now on I think this will be my work horse since it has an excellent zoom lens with image stabilizer, small size with tons of manual functions which are very important for me. The only downside of this camera is, under low light with flash, it is not as sharp as my DSLRs. But this is not a DSLR, it is a point and shoot. One more thing worth mention. It takes excellent 1080p videos so you won't need to carry a camcorder anymore...but make sure go get a HDMI cable for playback.

Good Camera for the Price
Canon camera review Best features: It's a Canon which means quality construction, easy menus and excellent pictures/videos. I've owed Canon cameras for over 20 years. Cameras range from the lower cost Powershot light/small models to the 5D Mark II. So 30% of my photos are taken with a Powershot, 60% with an iPhones and 10% with my expensive camera. So, a pocket camera is a must for unplanned shots and portability. Check Flickr photo website to see Canon cameras are one of the most used in the non cell phone category. This model has lots of good features: - Excellent picture and video quality in compact size. One of the best devices for the price. Similar quality & features cost 50% more in other cameras. Zoom lens is a bonus. (TIP: Turn of digital zoom. Useless on every camera and results in lower quality images.) - Low light shooting is great. Image stabilization, a must-have for any camera today, adds to the high definition (HD) video quality. - Full 1080p HD video - HDMI cable not included (TIP: Cost *** online. Do not buy *** cables. They are no better or safer for your electronics. ) HDMI cable needed ONLY to play videos from the camera directly to an HD television. HDMI transfers both audio and video. No need for a separate audio cable. Alternative is to transfer video files using the included USB cable to a PC/Mac. Then, watch videos on PC, save to portable storage like an SD cards, thumb drives or burn to a blank CD/DVD. - SD card slot in camera. Card not included. (TIP: Buy a Class 6 or higher for faster speeds when taking a photo. Takes longer to store a photo to the SD card meaning slower opportunity to take the next photo.) - Every Canon camera comes with software that will convert videos to common formats. - GPS location imbedded in each photo - Smile detection - even in group shots - Blink detection - tells you subject blinks during the shot. - Special in-camera filters such as fish eye, miniature, sepia and others enhance photos without the need for a PC. CONS: Small plastic stem holds the cover to the HDMI and USB ports. Feels like the stem will break. Prefer a true hinge. Would like a separate button to erase photos.

Beautiful little camera with large capabilities
I love this camera so far....there are still features I am learning about. The large screen image is a treat and its capability in low light is phenomenal. I photograph original artwork primarily and cannot always be outside in good natural light due to weather....taking photos inside under daylight balanced flourescent lighting is just as good and gives excellent color. I have also taken photos of my cats indoors in less than optimal light and they are beautiful without flash. The 14x Optical Zoom is quite a treat as well. I look forward to more and more good experiences with my camera.

Exactly what I wanted in a camera
This camera is exactly what I wanted when looking to replace an older point-and-shoot digital camera. I wanted one with a good optical zoom along with being affordable. The camera was extremely easy to use and very fast. We took it on vacation and had no problems pulling out the camera to catch a quick shot. It booted up very fast, unlike some cameras that take a few seconds costing you a great picture.

Good Camera, inconveniently positioned flash
We purchased this camera to replace an older Canon. We had been happy with the older Canon but the resolution was low and we could only put a maximum of 2 gigabites for memory and the battery needed replacing. We purchased this camera, along with a 16GB SD type 10 SD card. The camera takes relatively good pictures, we did research before purchasing and the comments/reviews were generally good. Some people had complained about the flash positions and we thought that it would not be an issue for us. However you tend to hold the camera naturally where the flash is supposed to pop up. So you always have to remember to not hold the camera where the flash pops or you can to shut down the camera and restart it after repositioning your hand, kind of annoying. When you ask someone to take a photo, they also have the same issue, they try to hold the camera where the flash is and end up pushing the flash down. Other than this annoying issue, the camera has some good features and is easy to use. Would I recommend it to a friend? No I would not, because there are other Canons without the flash being an issue.

Digital Camera (Canon PS SX-230 HS) review
This item was received on time but was not open because I decided to return it. The folks at Overstock did not 'hassle' me one bit. In fact they were very courteous, helpful, and professional in all aspects of the "return process'.
