slow speeed
This is ok for what it is, if you are only having to use this unit to recharge a lot of things with USB ports, then it is fine. I have a computer with more USB ports in the back than in the front, and a lot of the cables are pretty short, so I wanted something durable that would handle more items in the front of the box. This is ok, but my computer is constantly telling me that my speed would improve if I plug it in directly instead of in a multiple unit. The more multiples the unit has, the slower the speeds get because it is all being channeled through just one USB in your computer. If you are charging your camera, your iphone, your ipod, your ipad, and need to do that all at once, this will work. If you are trying to use this for a printer, a scanner, an external harddrive, or something like that where you are sending and accessing information then this is going to be slow. Either use one with fewer ports, or try to get something high speed. For what it is, it does the job, but just be aware of the limitations of the computer itself trying to put all that through one USB and don't get frustrated.

You'll never need another extra USB port again
I couldn't ask for a better USB Hub-port station then this. All ports work great, they light up red individually only when you have them active, so you know what's on and what's not. Smooth functionaliity, can easily be placed on the desk or hung on the wall or even stuck to the side of a desk(I used super strong velco backing on the bottom of the hub which works great, and I can pull it up and place it anywhere I need to.) With so many different items we use via USB these days--for me it's transferring info to a tablet, iPod hookup, zip drives, secondary backup drive, digital camera, even a scanner--this is the port for me and for you. Go simply from a 2.0 USB port from the back of your computer to this USB strip hub, and you are DONE--no software, no instructions needed, it takes 5 seconds to hook up and you're good to go! So far this item works well when neded. I have put it to use with my desk top computer and it helps with eliminating multiple steps with removing and installing different items.

does the job
I have tried other multi port USB hubs, this one handles multiple devices including an external disk drive while other hubs have not. I decided to pay a little more and buy it from Overstock because they would accept a return if I was not satisfied.
