This is great to just leave in the car for when you need it. Bought 1 for each of our 4 cars and also one for my travel case. Very small and takes up no room.
there's serious potential here, but this product, as its currently sold (in 2012), is very poor quality. Its an ok device if all you want is something to sit in Your car and charge a phone or ipod, but for serious backpackers or hikers I very strongly advise against this product. For the same price one can get a much better, more practical, and also made in America, solar charger. This unit does not offer any of the voltage range it claims to, and operates solely at 5v, regardless of what setting you select. The connector cord adapters are poor quality, and easily break, become disconnected, or fail to transfer charge without near constant fiddling. Furthermore this solar charger has no hookup points to attach to a bag or hang from anything. The built in battery pack is about all that's good about this device. I'm not sure if this item is OEM, but the power adapter has been working well- I've had it for 2 weeks now, and use it 2 times a day (I have three 4th generation touch iPods that often need charging). I did purchase three of the other wall chargers (white car and wall charger http://www.overstock.com/Electronics/White-USB-Car-and-Travel-Charger-for-Apple-iPod-Touch-4/5643110/product.html). After 2 months of regular use, 2 of the 3 stopped working. Thank you Overstock for giving me a refund on those items! Needless to say, I won't buy those types of chargers again. But...going back to this product-- so far, so good. The cords plug in well. The block shape is low-profile and sturdy. I've read previous reviews that said the charger conks out, but this has not happened to me yet. I'll wait a few more weeks before I buy more. The product gets 5 stars.
I bought this because I was new to the Ipod touch. It worked for a while, then the silicone stretches on it too much and it falls off. Actually for my purposes the silicone works "too well" and sticks to EVERYTHING. At any rate it doesn't fit tight enough to work properly.
