I researched this product before I purchased it and I heard some complaints . I took everyone of them to heart so I will pass what I learned.
1: Oil the serger before you even start it.
2. This Singer, the Stylist, comes with a great DVD, watch it before you use the serger
2b. I read the manual and then I...
3. I labeled all the parts, lower looper, upper looper, left/right needle, stitch length, etc
4. I numbered the order that you need to thread the machine, with tiny dot stickers
5. I painted each piece with color coordinated nail polish the path where each thread goes.
I did this last night and then today I used the machine, it worked beautifully. I trained on a baby lock and this one was just as goodl
What I liked about this one is that it has a free arm. Baby lock doesn't have that.
I also bought a Singer Professional 5, it has three cover stitches which is why I bought it but the dvd that comes with it does not compare with the one that comes with the Stylist, that one is a workbook, while the one that comes with the Singer Stylist Serger," shows you around" it gives a live demonstration on how to thread it and how to adjust the stitches.
I wish the Singer Professional 5, model number ends with dc had a similar dvd in it but it doesn't, I'm sure I'll be happy with it, too, but it doesn't have a free arm, Professional 5 has all the feet, which comes in handy and my guess is that I will be able to use them for my Stylist. I'll keep you informed. But I'm happy with the Stylist, and I'm happy with Overstock, It had the best pricing on these. It was shipped on time, and it was in good shape.
This Serger is very good. easy to understand.
i have been using Singer serger for long time, and i have never watched the DVD for instruction.
I think for the beginner , no need expensive , and complicated .
I was really in great need of a serger. I am very pleased with it, I took it out of the box and started using it. I was needing to make a rolled hem and I read it and practiced, and was sewing in no time. My very first serger and it's very easy to learn all the stitches. I had to sew five rows of ruffles on a quince dress, I'm very pleased with it and recommend it.
I have attempted to deal with this machine for 5 months. Let me start by saying that I have been sewing for 50 years and know my way around a sewing machine. I had used other sergers belonging to friends over the years but never bothered to get one for myself because traditional sewing worked fine for me.. Now that I'm back to sewing doll clothes and costumes for grandchildren I thought a simple serger would come in handy.
To start with, the lower looper of this machine never stays threaded. I can work for 5 or 10 minutes and it suddenly becomes unthreaded. It has taken me hours to complete a job because I constantly need to rethread. This is a giant waste of time and energy. I was certain, at the beginning that I was doing something wrong but this is an incredible problem for this machine. I would say it's pretty useless. The last straw is the tiny "spreader" attachment now drops off in the middle of a seam. I realize it can be replaced but should I be buying one of these every few months?
I would never buy this again or recommend it to anyone. Your money is better spent elsewhere.

Hello lizaki35, we do not see any obvious difference, except the model numbers which are 14SH764.CL and
model 14CG754. One may be an upgraded model of the other. For additional information on these two models, we have included a link to Singer. Thank you for shopping with us. http://www.singerco.com/overstockcustomercare1 on Jun 17, 2014
