I read the reviews and agree with the positive comments. I think its a good value for the money. I didn't give this an excellant rating because of the following... I had a major issue with the zipper foot included. I was trying to sew cording and the shape/design of the foot would not allow me to stitch close enough to the cording. I did not like it for a centered zipper either. But I did use it to install a lapped zipper and it worked great. The machine does not stop when you let off the power foot...it always stitches one more stitch which I'm not used to. Also the reverse button starts one stitch forward before going backwards. The bobbin cover is plastic and I only hope the tab doesn't break from changing out the bobbin with a lot of use. When selecting a stitch number you have to go all the way up to 9 for each digit before you can go back to zero for a straight stitch which is zero. I called the Singer help line and it took 40 minutes to get thru.Read More
I bought this machine in Feb. 2014 and was looking for good value for the money as well as a quality machine. I had limited funds but decided on this one based on the consumer report award. While it does most of what I need it to do, (I'm a professional seamstress) it doesn't sew as fast as my previous 2 machines, only 750 stitches per minute, but it does have a great buttonhole, automatic needle threader, good lighting and the needle up/down feature is nice. The feed dogs hold the fabric tight, and the straight stitch is great. My previous machine was a Viking 425 and in 10 years it needed new feed dogs already. A $$$$ machine should last more than 10 years, so i opted for the Singer name, hoping It would be a good fit.Read More
