Horrible product
My daughter was so excited to learn to sew, and she received this product from Santa for Christmas. It was AWFUL. It doesn't work at all and just creates high hopes followed by disappointment and frustration. The stitches do not hold, and there is zero tension control making for frequent tangling and knotting. When I tried to contact Singer to let them know what I thought, I was informed that they do not manufacture this product, but only put their name on it! I was disgusted enough that I will not buy another Singer product. My daughters now use the Janome Hello Kitty machine which is an excellent starter, a real machine just sized down. Otherwise I would just recomment buying an inexpensive starter machine here on Overstock (they have several under $100) in a regular size. Don't waste your money or time on this item.

not worth any price
I purchased this for my grand daughter and I'm so sorry I didn't just buy one of the many inexpensive 'real' machines here. I thought it would be a good first sewing machine but it's so bad, I'm afraid my grand daughter might loose all interest in sewing. The plastic is cheap. The foot pedal doesn't reach the floor. You can not use your hand to operate the pedal because you need both to force the fabric along the machine. The stitches don't hold. It is a miserable waste of money.

We WERE excited
My daughter was so excited when she got this for her birthday, until we used it. It is louder than my full size machine and the stitching STINKS. Like the others said the stitches unravel quickly, and it tangles very easily. We were excited about my daughter being able to have her very own machine to work on while I used mine, but this was such a disappointment. We have only used it twice and we got this back in Jan.

Useless
I purchased this for my 5 year old and returned it the next day. The chain stitch is like a crochet stitch... it unravels instantly... even before you hand sew the end like the manufacturer suggests (which is really a drag for a Mom) I'm going to let her use mine with CLOSE SUPERVISION as this one is completely useless. There are some small machines here on Overstock that would be a better gift for a child who wants to learn to sew. You can buy a finger guard that snaps onto the presser foot to help avoid injuries
