All this machine does is sew a straight line, but it's great at that. No hem stitch, zigzag stitch, or anything other than a straight line. It at least has two speeds for that. I bought the machine on a whim because I suddenly decided I wanted to make my own dresses. I know this is a phase that will pass in a few months, so this machine is perfect for that purpose.

Shark Mini
 from Gilbert,AZ,  Nov 19, 2010

The product arrived with a defective power supply. I replaced it with a compatible one from another product and the machine worked fine. I used it on a shirt, and it did the job quite well.

Shark Mini
from Long Beach, CA,  Nov 3, 2010

Purchased this after I read another review to mend small holes and hem pants; take in etc.... It does the job as expected for something so small and portable. After I was done, I put it back in the box it came in and stuck it on shelf in laundry room till next time. I highly recommend if you are a beginner and want to save some $$ on simple tailor jobs.

Did not come with a foot pedal
from Denver, CO,  Jul 10, 2011

My only complaint at the moment is that this product did not come with a foot pedal like stated in the description. Sewing is a bit difficult without a pedal, so I am ultimately unhappy with the purchase.

  • How did the image on site compare with the actual product? true to product
  • How accurate was the on site description of the product? not true to product - did not come with a foot pedal
  • Please tell us about the quality of the product. expected for the price

Shark Sewing
 from Arkansas,  Jan 10, 2011

I was NOT expecting a heavy duty machine just one so I could hem pants or fix a pocket on scrubs and this machine lived below expectations, the bobbin is hard to deal with and keeps bunching up and I would have to start all over again after spending 15 min. getting the mess cleaned up and then having to untangle it time after time was very fustrating. It is easy to store but performance is poor.

Suprisingly awesome!
from Clifton, NJ,  Aug 29, 2011

For one who doesn't sew....ever....I am so impressed with the ease at which I was able to set up and operate this machine. The directions to thread the bobbin and needle are straightforward and perfectly easy to understand. Actually sewing was simple as well for the small project I had (sewing a lining for a handbag). I don't know about fancy stitches, but for easy sewing projects, this machine is perfect.

Not too shaggy.
 from Bronx, N.Y.,  Dec 29, 2009

This is not a machine for someone who does not have the experience of a proffesional to deal with. It could be perfect for someone that needs something portable and simple to use on a run. Not a product for someone that wants to work at home on basics things.

You get what you pay for
 from NYC,  Apr 6, 2012

For the price, you can't go wrong. It is easy to use for a beginner but obviously lacks many features. I would say it is great for someone who is just learning, maybe a teenager. Cannot do thick fabric but you get what you pay for.

Sorry, more like a kids toys.....I brought it for curtains and things that I could do by hand. Thinking at it would save me time without having to use my large sewing machine.

Didn't like it so much
from Scottsdale, AZ,  Feb 16, 2012

This cool-looking mini sewing machine seems like it would be a dream for the person who just throws in a hem every now and then, like me. Well, I purchased it to give it a try. It wasn't too hard to set-up and use, but the tension just couldn't get adjusted quite right to not cause the thread to constantly bunch up. In the end, it was more trouble than it was worth. I'll keep looking for something for easy hems and repairs. (I'm 5'1", size 8. While I can usually find petite pants that fit me, I have a harder time with shirts. I often need to hem the regular shirts - petite shirts are often too short waisted - to an acceptable length.)

  • How did the image on site compare with the actual product? Looks just like image, but nothing there to compare scale
  • How accurate was the on site description of the product? not sure
  • Please tell us about the quality of the product. Product was difficult to use and the tension just couldn't get adjusted quite right to not cause the thread to constantly bunch up.

Disappointing
 from Tennessee,  Oct 27, 2011

I bought this for simple hems and tacks. I did not expect much from a "Mini". I was very disappointed to find a stitch that was loose and inconsistent. I made several adjustments to the tension and the stitch length to no avail. The only expectation it met was portability. It was easy to bring out for one task and quickly put away. That being said, if it does not perform, there is no reason to bring it out to begin with.
