Bought this machine for my 10 year old that was learning to sew. Big mistake! We thought the machine was great b/c it was portable & light weight so she would be able to take it to and from her sewing classes with ease. She also liked that it was small & was not intimidating but as we soon find out you pay for what you get. A good sewing machine is around $300. This one kept getting stuck! When we took it to a professional to get it fixed they said the rotary mechanism is very sensitive and really should be used by people who aleady know how to sew but just need something portable for a quick fix b/c you have to pull the fabric threw at the right time or the needle will jam. By the time we find all this out the 30 day Overstock return policy had passed now we're stuck with it. We've bought a new machine (Janome) and plan to Craig's List this one;-(
I bought this sewing machine as a gift for my 16-year-old niece to teach her to sew. It works beautifully, and she was able to thread the machine and sew with it in no time. It is about 2/3 the size of my portable and probably half as heavy. That should make it easier for my niece to store and use. It's quite easy to select the stitch and adjust the thread tension. The only drawback we've found so far (1 dress completed and the second project started) is that it doesn't come with a zipper foot or a cover, and no other accessories are available. When we get to the zipper part, it will be a bit of a challenge to figure out how to best do that. Guess we'll end up making our own cover as the next project. My niece was so delighted at being able to make her own clothes that she's now looking forward to taking a sewing class at school and learning to design her own styles!
I purchased this machine so that I could take it places to sew. It sews beautifully. It is so lightweight that I can easily carry it but at the same time it isn't so light that it moves while I sew. It is a small version of an excellent machine,
