I have completed several sewing projects with my Janome 634D serger. It sews a very nice seam. The instruction manual is easy to follow. I did as the manual said by tying my own thread to the existing threads the serger was shipped with, so I did not have to actually thread it myself! This definitely makes it easier. I owned a different model serger before and did not know I could do that.

Purchased this via overstock roughly a month ago. Got this for wife making bridesmade dresses for daugther's wedding. Wife never used an overlock before. Where i agree with the other user that the manual is short, i think it gave us more than enough information to use this machine. It even explained the different stitches you can get with 3 thread and 4 thread. The threading is not hard, the machine itself is color coded from the thread tension to the loopers. If you can identify colors, you can thread this machine. Simply follow the same color from the starting point to the end and you are fine. Wife did use the machine quite a bit and only broke thread a few times, more because of inexperience than anything. If you have never use an overlock before however, i highly recommend that you get use to the machine and its capability on an extra piece of fabric. You don't want to learn how the machine works trying on what you want to actually sew, trust me. Overall, i couldn't ask more for this machine. The price is half of what i would have paid for other similar machines. The box is not much to look at but is not like we bought the machine to look at the box. I will recommend this item.

Excellent machine, but be aware that it does take time to get setup and threaded correctly for it to work. If anything is misthreaded, it will not sew properly. That said, I have enjoyed this machine and the professional finishes that it gives to the garments that I create. It saves so much time too (after it's setup!). I'm not sure how I lived without having a serger like this in my sewing shop!

I absolutely love my new Singer Serger. It runs like a dream. There is a learning curve with all that it does, but with a little patience I was on my way. Can't wait to see all of the new things I can do with the many functions of this machine! I mainly use this for making gymnastics leotards so the serging feature is very important, but I can't wait to put the overstitch and seam lock options to use.

The product arrived on time and seems to be of very high quality. I am happy with the accessories that came with it and also the DVD showing how to use the product. I have not used the product yet, but the directions for threading are very clear and easy to follow. I gave it four stars only because I have not used it yet, but I am quite happy with the product.

This serger is a nice serger. I own four sergers, One Janome, and two older singers. This American Homer Serger is equal in performance to my $1000 serger. I have been looking for a free arm serger and was very happy to find this one. You do need to change the needle plate to do rolled hems. I am thinking about purchasing another one for my daughter-in-law.

I didn't know a thing about sergers and had never used one before. I had no problem setting it up and using it. This alone should tell you it's an excellent product. I love it!

This is the first serger I've purchased. I have a Janome sewing machine, so knew I was happy with the Janome product. I di d a lot of research on sergers and it seemed the biggest issue with them is the threading of them. This one had reviews that the threading was fairly simiple as far as sergers went - I found this to be truie. The machine arrived quickly - within 3 days of ordering. I was able to thread fairly easily and run a test strip of fabric. The machine seems solid and a good, basic serger. I can't wait to try some projects! If you're looking for a basic, good quality serger I would recomend this one!

It was a toss up between the Janome 204D and the slightly less expensive Brother 1034D. There are thousands of great online reviews of the Brother. But having just a bit more to spend, I was concerned that the Brother, while a great machine, would be noisy and seem somehow flimsy (an impression I got both from reading 1034D reviews as well as through experience with other Brother products). I also liked the look and compact profile of the Janome 204D. I'm so glad I took a chance and went for the Janome. It's beautiful! It's compact, I think it's well designed, very quiet and runs extremely smoothly. It came threaded and my first project was complete within hours of opening the box. When it came time to re-thread the machine I watched about 5 minutes of the instructional DVD that came with the serger and didn't find it difficult (although I have only threaded it by tying and pulling the new thread through, not "from scratch"). Overall I'm glad I spent a little extra for what is obviously a quality machine.

I had a 4 thread serger but got this one for the cover stitch capability and the chain stitch it can do. I am a man, by the way, whose mother taught him to sew (thanks Mom!) when he was a young boy over 50 years ago. Never had a serger until recently. This serger is a bit more complicated to thread than the 4 thread serger I had. Not impossible, it just takes a few minutes to read the manual and make sure the threads are done in the correct order and are in the right place before stepping on the pedal. There are a lot of moving parts in there that have to be set up properly. I have not mis-threaded it yet. That said, it serges flawlessly and the auto tension settings seem to make things very easy when sewing. They can be adjusted if the stitch isn't balanced in the material you are using. Serging is a great way to finish fabric seam ends quickly and professionally, but you really ought to understand how the stitch works and what you are trying to do with it, then do test runs on scrap before working on a garment. Most negative reviews I have seen of this machine seem to point out the user has not threaded the machine properly. (They don't say that specifically, but the way they are written it is pretty clear.) Many say they have had sergers in the past with no problem, or it never worked right, etc. In most cases it's pretty obvious that the person wanted to just take off and go without any preparation. Overstock has a great price on these and it's pretty hard to get a 5 thread serger anywhere in this price range.

This is my first serger and I absolutely love it. The quality of the machine is awesome and my sewing projects look much more professionally complete because of this wonderful machine. The instructions were easy to follow and I had it up, threaded and running in about 20 minutes.

Ther seems to be a problem with it continuing to break theright side needle. I have used a serger for 12 years needed a new one. this was a good price but it keeps braking all the needles and where I live it's nearly i,possibleto get replacements at the volum I would need.

The last serger I used prior to my new Janome 7034D was an industrial serger built into a table. I was pleasantly surprised how well this Janome compares to the industrial serger for functionality. This Janome does exactly what I was looking for. Although I've sewn for three decades It's been quite a few years since I have used a serger and this is very user friendly. I have not tried the pintucking nor blind hem seam yet on the Janome so I don't know the machine's full capability. I followed the helpful instructions to tie my thread to the existing thread already on the machine and had no trouble. I've heard that threading sergers can be a real nightmare. I would have given this a 5 star rating but I had a few items I would change for the Janome to earn my full praise. 1. The machine is not super quiet, which is needful when I have sleeping children. And it kind of takes off running at a jolt instead of easing into the stitching. 2. a trap to catch the fabric trimmings would be helpful since they just fall to the ground. 3. the machine should have included a seam allowance guide (sold separately). It's hard to see the seam guide on the machine until your fabric meets the machine. Overall I'm very happy with my serger and would recommend it!

The reviews were so helpful and pricing was way below local stores and other on line pricing. It's a nice serger. It came within two days! I was able to finish my daughter's Jr. Miss dress quickly and she won! Rave reviews on the dress too! I know I will continue to enjoy using this machine. Thanks again Overstock!

I have never owned a serger but used several. This is a great little machine. Light, quiet and the DVD makes the threading & tension a breeze to manage. I would highly recommend this machine to anyone who loves to sew & have a nice finished project.. I have been using it daily since I got it ..and I am loving it !!!
