Love Love Love my new serger! Works great! Had bad experience with my old serger, super hard to thread, etc. etc. This machine was much easier to thread and sews very nicely.

The Janome performs well, is not as hard to thread as I thought - although the bottom loopers take a bit of learning. The machine makes many relatively hard sewing functions simple to accomplish. Use big spools of thread - as any serger uses a lot of it. Happy with the purchase. Along with the Brother embroidery machine, it is easy to get professional results on our home projects.

I have never owned a serger but used several. This is a great little machine. Light, quiet and the DVD makes the threading & tension a breeze to manage. I would highly recommend this machine to anyone who loves to sew & have a nice finished project.. I have been using it daily since I got it ..and I am loving it !!!

This is my first serger. I bounced back and forth between replacing my 25 year old Singer sewing machine with a new one or buying a serger. Since the machine works fine, I decided to keep it and buy the serger. What a great idea! It is really a wonderful machine. The Janome Magnolia is sturdy, and sews and cuts beautifully. The machine comes pre-threaded to ease the pain of threading it. You have to attach and knot thread to the thread already loaded in the machine. Somehow I managed to pull the knot out of two of the threads, so I just took out all of the pre-loaded threads and figured it out, with a little assistance from a Youtube video. It was in Spanish, but it was easy to follow along with the visual cues. The thread guides are color coded, but the green ones are sort of tricky and hard to see, so you may need a flashlight to see the guides inside the machine. I didn't find the manual that helpful which is why I searched Youtube for assistance. I practiced on scraps to get the feel of the machine and to learn how it works before using it to work on a project. I think the machine does a great job. No stalling, hesitating or stumbling over layers, it sews and cuts right through. Having an older sewing machine, it's a nice change of pace to sew with the serger because it is fast and powerful! The Janome Magnolia is an affordable machine and it gets my recommendation. I am pleased with my purchase and am impressed with the Janome brand. When I do get a new sewing machine, it will be the same brand.

I never have touched a serger before and was not sure i needed one. I have used the machine so far to cover seams. I hate zip zagging. This is so fast. I made crib bedding and finished all the seams with the new machine. Love it! I was not sure it would be pre-threaded and I was hoping for a video that some reviewers mentioned. A happy yes to both. The spools had come off in shipping but were easily untangled and I was sewing in 30 minutes. It is a nice heavy weight machine and feels sturdy like it can handle anything I will try sewing over. Wish there were classes in my area but I have spent a few mornings searching tutorials online and have found several that give me confidence to get more acquainted with what it can do. Good buy

This is my first serger and at first the threading guide was a little intimidating. But, after watching the video that was supplied (3 times) I was success at threading my serger. I can't believe that a rolled hem on a scarf took only minutes. It would have taken me 3 hours with cramped fingers on my old machine. I love this and cant wait to find more sewing projects.

I had a 4 thread serger but got this one for the cover stitch capability and the chain stitch it can do. I am a man, by the way, whose mother taught him to sew (thanks Mom!) when he was a young boy over 50 years ago. Never had a serger until recently. This serger is a bit more complicated to thread than the 4 thread serger I had. Not impossible, it just takes a few minutes to read the manual and make sure the threads are done in the correct order and are in the right place before stepping on the pedal. There are a lot of moving parts in there that have to be set up properly. I have not mis-threaded it yet. That said, it serges flawlessly and the auto tension settings seem to make things very easy when sewing. They can be adjusted if the stitch isn't balanced in the material you are using. Serging is a great way to finish fabric seam ends quickly and professionally, but you really ought to understand how the stitch works and what you are trying to do with it, then do test runs on scrap before working on a garment. Most negative reviews I have seen of this machine seem to point out the user has not threaded the machine properly. (They don't say that specifically, but the way they are written it is pretty clear.) Many say they have had sergers in the past with no problem, or it never worked right, etc. In most cases it's pretty obvious that the person wanted to just take off and go without any preparation. Overstock has a great price on these and it's pretty hard to get a 5 thread serger anywhere in this price range.

Janome sewing products have always given me satisfaction. This machine operates beautifully and I just love it. I recommend this serger to any inexperienced or professional seamtress. It's real easy to operate and the functions to thread the machine are all color coded, so it's a breeze.

This machine has many new features that I did not have on my old Serger. So far has provided excellent results on my clothes and decor. Love the additional presser feet for some new projects.

I'm just learning to sew. Directions were limited, but after messing around with some scrap pieces, I figured it all out. Glad I made the purchase.

I needed to raplace my serger that had lasted me for dedades. After comparing prices both on line and in stores, I found it to be a good price for a good product. It is easier to use and the DVD is a nice feature to understand how to use the serger.

I have completed several sewing projects with my Janome 634D serger. It sews a very nice seam. The instruction manual is easy to follow. I did as the manual said by tying my own thread to the existing threads the serger was shipped with, so I did not have to actually thread it myself! This definitely makes it easier. I owned a different model serger before and did not know I could do that.

This was my first serger, having never even sewn on one before, so I was very nervous about this purchase. This one had good reviews and a good price and I am not disappointed! It WAS intimidating at first glance! But I took the time to watch the video, which is very helpful, especially for threading (but also a little scary since it sounds complicated). The machine arrived already threaded and I probably could have just started serging immediately, but I mistakenly thought the threads were tangled or "off," so I rethreaded them all following the book. That was actually a good thing because I gained some confidence and got familiar with the machine. The machine does have a few more plastic parts than what I would like, but I assume this is par for the price. It runs wells and is quieter than I expected, so so far so good, I'm pleased with this purchase.

I total love my new serger. I love the Cover Stitch capabilities! It was not hard to figure out or thread, I studied it step by step, took notes and made samples of each stitch. Take time to learn about the machine and its capabilities before diving into a sewing project. The step by step book is very helpful. I don't think you need professional classes to figure it out, but you definitely need to do learn about the different techniques first.

I was a little bit worried about buying the machine, with a couple of the reviews written that were bad. So, I don't always go by reviews. I took a chance and bought it, and I love it. I want this machine because of the cover stitch and chain stitch that it does. I was really impressed with the stitching, I was a little worried about the threading, because of one of the reviews. Had a little trouble at first, and it was because all the threads have to be thread like it tells you in the book, if you break a thread, then re-thread the whole machine, for no problems. I really love this machine and I really enjoy working on it. It runs beautiful, will write another review, when I have owned it a little longer, and use all the different stitches that it does. So far it is excellent.
