We needed to make 29 coffin cakes for a school project relating to the book, Dracula. We purchased two pans, vanilla and chocolate box cake mixes; chocolate wafers and some homemade icing. The end result was impressive. We iced them, and then sprinkled crushed chocolate wafers in the coffin well which made it look like boxes of dirt relating to the one scene in the book which we were trying to tie into. Lots more you could do to decorate with fancy icing, gummy worms, etc. These would be great for a school Halloween party, etc. They are the perfect size for a sweet treat.
The pans cleaned up nicely in between batches. If you make these, allow the cakes to cool completely as they will tumble out much easier. Experiment with your first batch as far as how much to fill. Start w/ 1/3 the batter and go from there. Enjoy!
