I have to say that I should have been warned by the reviews that I read before purchasing! But I too, have received an inferior product! I spent several days trying to get the machine to not jam and stop sewing as it knotted up the bobbin thread in a huge mass. Then the batteries began to liquify and leak out on my fabric!!! this was when the machine was turned OFF! This cute little machine reminds me of a wolf in sheep's clothing!
I purchased this as a gift for my 12 year old for her birthday, she is a great fan of the TV design shows and wanted a machine to work on her "Projects". After reading previous reviews I was a little hesitant, but now I am so glad I did!! The machine is small but has a cute retro look about it (very important to a 12 year old!!), the instructions are a little vague but as I've previously owned sewing machines we were able to muddle our way through. We haven't had any problems with "tension", perhaps it's the "luck of the draw" depending on how they are set at the manufacturers She is now sewing her simple designs and is having a blast ! Based on previous reviews, we remove the batteries when it is not in use and haven't had any problems with leakage or overheating. This is a great "first machine", it is easy to use, is portable and is building my daughters confidence in her abilities to create her own designs.
What a cute little machine. I received it as a gift from my students in school. This machine does a great job on small jobs such as hemming a curtain without having it to take down. Great for a lot of other things as well. Great to have in the house, can be used instead of the big sewing machine which you don¿t have patience to take out. This weighs a nothing and does the same kind of jobs like the big machines. Great for beginners. Makes a great holiday gift. Or birthday gift, or teacher gift.
This sewing machine is the perfect size for my little apartment! It's simple to use as well. It is a basic sewing machine perfect for beginners like me! I practiced a couple of times on the swatch that came with it, and was ready to go. My first project was to shorten my son's jean pants into shorts and it really worked well.
I'm the last person anyone would ever call a Susie Homemaker, so I'm not certain this is the best review to go by. However, if you are a somewhat domestically challenged working and busy mother who is looking for a quick and easy way to hem pants, this machine is not terribly user friendly. I can't get it to do more than 4 stitches before it sticks. This may be because no matter how many times I take it apart and put it back together I'm not threading it correctly, perhaps I wasn't able to read the instructions well. At any rate, I have another handheld machine which does wonders that was given to me, but I am keeping the Rex because it will thread bobbins for me, which my other machine will not.
You are not going to sew a dress with it, but it is great for small fixes. Worked right out of the box. Fast learning curve. Did what would have taken 2 hours by hand stitching in 15 minutes. Would definaltely recommend. Overstock is a little slow on shipping, but for only $2.95 total shipping charges I can live with that
It is cute.!! but I have one with some missing parts.. The nut for the needle screw is missing and what ever the upper tension tightens into is not there.. If I can get those parts I will be in operation..
It appeared to be fairly well built, but after numerous attempts at using this machine, I threw it out. It would not sew consistently - even when powered with cord. It is easier to hand sew.
I bought this to hem cut-offs for my 7 yr old. What a great way to be resourceful and not have to spend a whole lot more on a sewing maching, I thought. Well, it's a piece of junk onless you are sewing very, very lightweight fabric. The thicker the fabric the more the needle won't travel, so forget doing anything but seersucker. Its very slow. The snap in parts that hold the spools and bobbins don't fit in well, and the pictures and directions are not very detailed either. This was very frustrating and time consuming just to get it going. I will pass it on to someone who has a couple of hours on hand to hem a pair of shorts.
We bought this for our 6 year old daughter to learn to sew with, but I've used it a couple of times while my machine is in for repairs. It's not a bad little machine! It has 2 speeds and stops/starts with a button, rather than a foot pedal. It doesn't do reverse and the stitches are just one size, nothing fancy. But, it's just the right size for my daughter and very simple to use. I doubt I would have the patience to use this for making clothes or anything, but for simple repairs or for a nice machine that's inexpensive to teach a little one to sew, this is perfect. I didn't rate it 5 stars only because it didn't come with an a/c adapter, so it runs the batteries down pretty quickly.
As a sewer for 30 years, some of that time professionally, I can say that this is a great product. No, it's not a regular sewing machine, but this little guy can certainly do your mending work. I bought this because my dogs tore some holes in their bed, and I didn't want to drag out the full size sewing machine. Well, it just chug-chug-chugged through four layers of fleece. Job done! For such a little battery powered no lest hand held sewing machine at such a great price any one would be hard pressed to find a better bargian, this little machine really works, a nice piece of engineering that does exactly what you asked. Also, this overstock affiliate is top notch. I got it in three days, and they test it for you before they ship it, so what can you lose? THANK YOU OVERSTOCK!!!!!
Most of the previous negative reviews centered on the bad instructions and the harshness of getting it started. Well, I guess the maker is at least trying to fix that. The little machine came pre-wired. I did not even bother to read the instructions. I installed the batteries, pushed the only button I could find and it started working. I was going to use it to stitch together a velvet drapery with a decorative fringe. The layers were too thick for it to handle. I basically spent 20$ without expected result. But I will keep it for future lighter work. It would do 4 layers of regular thickness of cloths. For heavier work, however, the investment would have to be equally heavier.
I have to admit I was very unsure of this product, but it cost me very little, so I figured why not, no big loss if it does not work. Well I went with my gut and I couldn't be happier. It was all set up and ready to go. I am pretty good at figuring things out on my own and I don't read directions and I didn't need to. I just bought a house and wanted to make my own curtains and I did. I have never made anything with a needle and thread. I am impressed with the ease of this machine and that it is so user friendly. Even my mother (who swears by her antique machine) loved it. Great price, great product, great sale. Thanks.
This little machine does work, once you figure out how to get it to work... The instructions are ridiculously complicated, and I still am not sure I've figured out how to refill it - but it works. Don't hope for sewing a straight line though...
This is an excellent gift for a 12 year old. my daughter loves it. Great quality
The sewing machine is SO SO worked well for a week after which it on and off. I would NOT recommend it to anyone.
item was received in a timely manner and the quality was as described
I really like this product. The only problems I have with it are my own fault. :) I am fairly new to sewing and I found it easy to operate but it still does quality work. I would totally recommend it to anyone!
This machine is so hard to put together, the instructions are so complicated. To this day i haven't been able to use it. I don't recommend this item at all.
This is a fantastic alternative to a big expensive machine! I'm smitten with it. It's noisy, but it feels sturdy, does good work & is ridiculously cute. Directions are somewhat sparse, but you figure it out if you play around with it.
