I used a few of the touch up markers on various pieces of furniture that have been dinged, dented, scratched, or chewed on. The variety of color options got me close but were not exact matches, which is to be expected. I have not used the filler sticks yet but I suspect they will be fine. Due to the severity of some of the repairs that were needed, the markers were sufficient especially when the furniture is viewed from a distance, but closer inspection easily reveals the cover up.
I really couldn't find any wood furniture touch-up markers/kits on this site, and have never used one before so can't really compare to another product. However, I was originally looking for the markers thinking it would be simple to just use those and be done with it. What I've learned is that I actually like the wax stick (think Crayon). You rub it over the scuff and just buff excess off with a paper towel or rag and that's it. I thought the marker would be somewhat similar whereby I would just 'color' over the scuff, however, the marker is not a fine tip, it's a chisel tip, but the chisel tip doesn't get into the small scuffs like I had hoped, but it does work well on very light surface scratches. Now that I think about it, maybe that's why there's both the marker and the wax stick :-) In this case, some instructions would have been nice to include...
I purchased an expensive dining table from an online auction site and was horrified when it arrived with multiple chips, deep scratches, and a dent or two-none of which had been mentioned prior to puchase. To attempt to hide some of the damage, I puchased several products. This was the first I tried. The trick is matching the wood without making the camouflage too dark. Easier said than done. If you try this, start with a color that is lighter than the shade you are trying to match. I did a one time atttempt at a close match and the results made the scratches more apparent. It looked like brown magic marker on wood. After all was said and done, I think a tinted crayon or a furniture cover-up stain from the local grocery store would have done a better job. I ended up using Danish oil to help cover the damaged areas and it blended much better with the table overall.
I really had low expectations for this product but let me tell you it works. Just using the markers is enough for most scratches. It's as simple as running the marker over the scratch and wiping it off. Seems to work best if you wipe across the scratch rather than lengthwise. For deep scratches, you can use the wax sticks which help fill it in. Overall a great product and I will recommend it to friends especially at this price.
