I ordered the stool to go with an antique secertary that I had purchased. It was just the right height. And the modern style goes well, but plan to put a colorful padded seat over the black plastic just to add more color to the room. Like that the seat will move up and down. Good buy for me. After you're seated, it's fine. You need to grab the seat securely before sitting or the stool scoots away from you and you could fall. It might be okay on carpet but on vinyl its dangerous.
