    • Great serger!

The last serger I used prior to my new Janome 7034D was an industrial serger built into a table. I was pleasantly surprised how well this Janome compares to the industrial serger for functionality. This Janome does exactly what I was looking for. Although I've sewn for three decades It's been quite a few years since I have used a serger and this is very user friendly. I have not tried the pintucking nor blind hem seam yet on the Janome so I don't know the machine's full capability. I followed the helpful instructions to tie my thread to the existing thread already on the machine and had no trouble. I've heard that threading sergers can be a real nightmare. I would have given this a 5 star rating but I had a few items I would change for the Janome to earn my full praise. 1. The machine is not super quiet, which is needful when I have sleeping children. And it kind of takes off running at a jolt instead of easing into the stitching. 2. a trap to catch the fabric trimmings would be helpful since they just fall to the ground. 3. the machine should have included a seam allowance guide (sold separately). It's hard to see the seam guide on the machine until your fabric meets the machine. Overall I'm very happy with my serger and would recommend it!

    • Seems perfect!

This is the first serger I've purchased. I have a Janome sewing machine, so knew I was happy with the Janome product. I di d a lot of research on sergers and it seemed the biggest issue with them is the threading of them. This one had reviews that the threading was fairly simiple as far as sergers went - I found this to be truie. The machine arrived quickly - within 3 days of ordering. I was able to thread fairly easily and run a test strip of fabric. The machine seems solid and a good, basic serger. I can't wait to try some projects! If you're looking for a basic, good quality serger I would recomend this one!

    • Great Machine

After reading many reviews on several sergers, I decided on the Janome 7034D Magnolia Serger. It arrived in a timely manner and was easy to thread. Just tied on my spools and pulled the thread through. Haven't sewed anything yet, but I have sewed on a long strip of material. It sewed very smooth and consistent. I would recomend this serger to anyone who needs a serger machine. I just love it.

    • Good buy, Love it!

This Janome 7034D Serger is pretty basic but I already expected it to be basic because I did not want to spend the big money to purchase a more advance Janome, If you are looking for a good solid serger then this 7034D is the way to go! it is solid and well built like all Janome Machines are. It serge's well and some what smooth. If I use it on my light sewing table then it tends to be a little louder and tends to shake the table a bit, but when I use it on my more solid wood sewing table then it's smooth serging all the way. It dose not come w/ a trim catcher ( this was the only thing I did not like about it) so you might want to place something to catch the trims from the cutting blade, It also only comes w/ one foot (as stated) so if your project calls for more than picot edging, rolled/narrow hemming then you might want to purchase extra feet via the web or a dealer. Over all I gave this serger a 5* because I have sewn for over twenty yrs and I must say it does the work that the manufacturer stated it would do, and O had the best price on this one.

    • Perfect for home projects

I bought this serger after falling in love with a serger in my sewing class. I've been sewing for about eight years but this was my first formal training. In the past I had used a simple zig-zag stitch on my edges but once I saw how easy using a serger was I knew I needed one, stat (much to my husband's delight as you can imagine!). This little machine is fabulous. I sew girls' clothing as well as a lot of home decor projects- mainly slipcovers. Out of the box the machine came threaded and I simply followed the directions and put my own thread in- super simple! I've used this on plain calico cottons as well as heavier indoor/outdoor fabrics and the machine has worked fabulously on both. I would recommend this machine to anyone looking for a great serger to increase the quality of homemade items- easy to use and professional results!

    • Love my Serger!

This is my first serger. I bounced back and forth between replacing my 25 year old Singer sewing machine with a new one or buying a serger. Since the machine works fine, I decided to keep it and buy the serger. What a great idea! It is really a wonderful machine. The Janome Magnolia is sturdy, and sews and cuts beautifully. The machine comes pre-threaded to ease the pain of threading it. You have to attach and knot thread to the thread already loaded in the machine. Somehow I managed to pull the knot out of two of the threads, so I just took out all of the pre-loaded threads and figured it out, with a little assistance from a Youtube video. It was in Spanish, but it was easy to follow along with the visual cues. The thread guides are color coded, but the green ones are sort of tricky and hard to see, so you may need a flashlight to see the guides inside the machine. I didn't find the manual that helpful which is why I searched Youtube for assistance. I practiced on scraps to get the feel of the machine and to learn how it works before using it to work on a project. I think the machine does a great job. No stalling, hesitating or stumbling over layers, it sews and cuts right through. Having an older sewing machine, it's a nice change of pace to sew with the serger because it is fast and powerful! The Janome Magnolia is an affordable machine and it gets my recommendation. I am pleased with my purchase and am impressed with the Janome brand. When I do get a new sewing machine, it will be the same brand.
