I am an experienced seamstress and sewing teacher. I own another Janome at 10x this price. I also own a top of the line Viking sewing and embroidery machine. I love this model! It was well worth the price. As others have mentioned, I like a mechanical machine for a back up. If the computers go down on my other machines, I am out of business until they can be fixed. This particular machine is easy to operate, sews beautifully, and even sounds great. You will not regret buying it. This is the best machine you can buy at this price point. It is certainly superior to any machine you could buy in a discount super store.
I almost bought this exact machine, new, as a Kenmore for $100 more. When I discovered that the reconditioned Kenmore was sold as a Janome, I decided to give it a try. The machine arrived quickly and in excellent condition.. I tested all the features to make sure they worked correctly and was not disappointed. I have used it for over a month now and am delighted with it. What a great value - thank you Overstocked.com!
This machine is as good as a new one. It sews smooth and quiet BUT it will not sew jeans. It doesn't have the power needed for that even tho it is listed as Heavy Duty. So........ if you want to sew anything besides jeans, I would recommend this reconditioned Janome. I feel like I got a good deal regardless.
A friend of mine has this model and I liked it so much I purchased one for me and my sister. I have not had any problems, though the button hole isn't my favorite. It sews smoothly and the stitches are great. To date I have had no tension or other problems with this machine. One reviewer mentioned these were Kenmores. These models were actually sold under the Kenmore name at Sears but are Janome made. When Sears discontinued this model they were sent back and "refurbished", they literraly just removed the Kenmore label and put the Janome label on. Most of the units are brand new off the shelf, though one of the two I purchased had some scratches on the plate which indicates it was either used and returned or was a floor model, but it works like a charm.
I am a quilter and novice seamstress. I bought this machine after my crappy Kenmore finally gave out after 10 years of abuse. This machine is SO smooth! It is sturdily built, easy to use, and of high quality. Perhaps I'm just really impressed after "making do" with my Kenmore for so long, but I actually look forward to learning more about sewing because this machine opens up so many options with the craft that I couldn't do on my Kenmore! I was skeptical about the price (I'm cheap, I'll admit that), and I wasn't sure whether a refurbished machine would meet my standards, but I am really pleased with the machine and I can't find anything that would set it apart from a new machine. If you''re on the fence about purchasing this machine, I would suggest that you take the plunge. You'd be hard pressed to find something of this caliber or better in this price range.
I purchased this janome 11590 for my "all house drapery project". So far so good. It good quality sewing machine with number of options. Need few effort to find optimum stich for different kind of fabric (I sew light and heavy). For me it's understandable instruction in front on machine. Of course before use need to read an instruction.
I am a new sewer and my teacher uses this machine at her studio. It is the Janome 11590 Heavy-duty machine. I purchased it in May 2011 and I received it super fast and even though it is advertised as refurbished my machine came packed very well and is brand new. It is so much fun to use and I was not intimidated by it at all. I immediately started to sew a dress a couple of tote bags and a cover for my machine. It has been so great to use my Aunt who has an old machine likes to come over to sew on it too. For this Christmas I am going to get one for her too. I love to sew and this sewing machine has given me more confidence to learn more because it works so smoothly on all kinds of fabric. I really love it a lot!!!! ;)
If you are looking for a machine and you want one that will last and sew ANYTHING this is it! No it does not have fancy digital settings it is a manual but it has all the stitches that you will ever need,an auto needle threader too, but the most important feature is that it will sew leather, denim to silk without a hiccup. it is a well built machine, had mine two years no problems. It says it is a Janome but is the same as the Kenmore from Sears, go to their website and check out the description but buy it cheaper on O.COM, mine was refurbished but it was as new when I got it. Comes with lots of attachments and needles you will not need to buy anything for it. Highly reccommend for beginners and pro's alike,
I sew for other people and added this as a backup machine. For the cost it out-performs itself. I have sewn hems on jeans, over thick seams without any problems. The buttonhole makers also is easy to work and does a good job. I do not hesitate to recommend this machine. It is sturdy, has a large variety of stitches, and is easy to use. Excellent value, especially for the price. Highly recommended.
I ordered this machine several months ago and have now spent about 15-20 hours sewing on it. It has never knotted up, the bobbin and threading mechanisms are simple to use, and all stitches are well-formed. I bought it because Janome is so highly rated, and I can see why. The only reason I didn't rate it as "Excellent" is because the specialty stitches are limited. I do use these stitches and wish I had a greater variety to choose from. For the price, you can't beat it. My projects look great, and it has been a pleasure to sew on this Janome model 11590.
