What a great little machine. I sewed on heavy fabric and on light fabric, worked great on both. I love the dropin bobbin. The machine looks like new(it is refurbished) and I received it very quickly. The price of $79 was a real bargain for such a quality machine.
Great machine for beginners and seasonal crafters; I've only made a skirt with the machine so far but it's one its job well. I just wished the set came with the good old metal foot instead of plastic for straight stitching, but it's not a big deal.
So far so good. This is by far a better machine than the brother I am replaceing and the old singer I replaced w/ the brother. I will never own a machine again that does not have a drop in bobbin. I only do basic sewing and this machine in more than adaquate. It has enough features and is very smooth and easy to use. Has a carrying handle and rubber grips on the bottom to keep it in place. As always Overstocked was great to shop w/ and shipping was very fast. Thanks
I have sewn on this sewing machine and it's a good model...but if metal bobbins are used in it as one reviewer mentioned...those metal bobbins are not meant to be used in a horizontal bobbin system sewing machine and stitch problems will surely result. A horizontal bobbin system is slightly magnetized and metal bobbins will definately cause problems. Use the plastic bobbins that come with the sewing machine and if you need more get plastic bobbins that are for use in a Janome sewing machine.
That is the excellent machine! I am a beginner and do not know much, but I have been using it for 4 month and I am very pleased with it. I did not have any problems, the machine did not brake the thread even once! And I made curtains from very heavy material.
This is a light weight basic machine. It has the Janome name, but the foot set-up appears to be another different manufacturer as some of the Janome feet will not fit. I ended up with a Baby Lock 1/4" quilting foot. Bobbin case and basic sewing machine are similar to the Janome Gem machines. Good straight stitching with zig-zag. It came with a variety of feet. It is a great machine to take to class as it is very light, compact, and has a great stitch
I have two high dollar machines but wanted a lightweight inexpensive one to take to meetings. I love my new Janome! I did have to buy more feet, but the basic machine works beautifully, is really lightweight and easy to operate. I recommend it for beginners or anyone interested in a second easily portable machine.
I have been using a 20+ year old Kenmore sewing machine that is pretty heavy duty and sews well. I was a little skeptical when I first received the Janome. It is about half the weight of my Kenmore, and obviously made of more plastic parts. So far, it has exceeded my expectations and sewn very well. It is quieter and smoother than the Kenmore, and handles multiple layers of fabric better. I just finished some pot holders and sewed through 5+ layers of heavy cotton fabric plus an insulated bat layer with ease. As an unexpected bonus, it uses the same bobbins as my old machine. I did purchase the extended warranty since it is a refurbished machine, but am very impressed with it so far.
I found out this machine was made by Janome for another company, so I decided to send it back when it arrived. However, after receiving it several days ago I opened it & tried it. I altered a pair of shorts & capris, & it sewed very well. In fact, much better than my old Kenmore I'd had for 37 yrs. I did purchase the 2 yr replacement warranty, just in case. But if it doesn't break, I may keep it. It's easy to thread, changing stitches is very simple; there isn't much bad I can say at this time, except for the plastic parts (my old machine had metal). But I can use my old metal bobbins on it, & maybe also the feet which I haven't tried yet. I really haven't had it long enough to give it more than 4 stars but I would recommend it.
I bought this machine for my daughter for Christmas, she has not actually used it yet. She is a beginner and I think this machine will be perfect. I bought myself a different Janome model last year and I have been extremely satisfied with the brand.
This little sewing machine works great. I got it for my daughter, age 8, as a beginner machine. Threading it was straight forward and set up was a breeze. I like that the lid of the bobbin has a picture on it how to thread the bobbin. It is also clear so it's easy to see how much thread is left. I have yet to try sewing a button hole with this machine, but I made a simple doll bed with varying thickness of fabric and it sewed through with no problems. It is quiet machine, or quieter than my old machine. The only thing that I need to do is get a good case for it. It's a great machine.
I am 53 year old male, I bought this sewing machine to sew the hem on my trousers, tired of asking the wife and not willing to pay the cleaners. If I pay for all the times I need sewing, I will have bought a machine, so I did. Buying a refurbished machine from Overstock saved me plenty coin. I learned what I needed to know about threading the machine and getting the bobbin set up by watching YOUTUBE.COM I practiced some and I was on my way in no time, the machine is excelent for my needs, Janome makes professional sewing machines as well, I recommend buying from OVERSTOCK.COM save money get good quality stuff. I am very pleased!
Received my machine in 3 days, Very simple to use, just what I needed. It is louder than my old machine, but does beautiful stitching. Only wish a carrying case had been available, as I carry it different places for projects. Would buy it again.
Overstock customers, for the money that I paid for my Janome 11554 sewing machine ($**) I cannot complain. I was willing to paid the $**, but find it on sale on Overstock website. This is one of the best under $100. Sewing machine you can buy. I go around town (the Greater Atlanta, GA area) telling everyone about my new Janome 11554 sewing machine, and what it can do. What can it do? Dresses, Suits, you name it you can do it. Anything you want to sew. It came with 3 bobbins, 4 needles, foot presser, and a lot more. Don't just take my word for it buy it your self.
I bought this as a gift for a friend. Excellent buy. Tested before I gave it to her. It works perfectly. The machine is a little louder than my own sewing machine, but mine is a little more expensive model. Came with all the necessary parts and instruction manual. Drop in bobbin is a nice feature, you can see when you'll run out of thread. Very good machine.
This is a great machine. I was looking for something to sew layers of heavy fabric and this machine looks like it can do it. I haven?t had a chance to work with some really thick materials yet, but it has handled everything I have tried. I was surprised with the quality and features of this machine. I like that this machine is simple to set up and easy to use.
I purchased this for my daughter and she was thrilled to be able to use it right out of the box. She immediately made herself cute little hairbows! I highly recommend.
I purchased this for my granddaughter as a 19th birthday gift. I works smoothly and is a very nice basic machine. The price was so good, I even used it myself. I have a computerized Singer, but usually just do the basic stitches. This machine does nice straight stitching, zig zags and even overcasts. It is easy to thread and filling the bobbin is just like my Singer. Great All purpose machine!
sewing machines are using alot of plastic. This one does a great job on a number of sewing needs
I was excited to get my new machine...when it came I was a bit intimidated at first thinking that it would take a rocket scientist to figure it out... not at all!!! to my delight it was easy to figure out..so much so that i didnt need the directions hardly at all. It runs very smoothly, I feel like i dont have to do anything! And it is strong, very strong. this was truly a great purchase.
