This style rotary cutter is the safest on the market IMHO. You can not see it in the photo but it has a switch like thing on the other side that you can set for light weight fabric and heavy weight fabric. It also locks the blade in will transporting. Also unless you are pressing down on it the blade- with is extremly sharp- the blade is not exposed. Other types have to be closed after each cutting to be safe. It will use any brand of blade that is 45 mm. The grip is such that both a left handed person or right handed person can use it. I bought my DGD one 5 years ago when she was learning to sew with her mom. I actually bought this for my daughter for Christmas so I have not used it but I have been a quilter for 12 years and have one already like this.
