Product Reviews for:
4.5 out of 5I got this machine for some light quilting and sewing and it has been very nice. I have no complaints at all. The long table is priceless and the different stitches work very well and are very nice-looking. I love being able to see when the bobbin is getting low and just how user friendly it is overall. I haven't had it long, but the 25 year warranty puts my mind at ease about durability. The instruction manual is unusually clear and helpful. It was wonderful value for the money and I wouldn't hesitate to buy it again or reccommend it to anyone!
I am extremely pleased with the machines features for the price. I had planned for this to be my 'travel' machine, but it has so many features and sews so well I am going to make it my main machine at home. My sister is planning to order this machine after she saw it in use. We have owned a LOT of sewing machines over the years, as we are both full time crafters and gift makers. This machine is absolutely one of the best for the money.
Machine arrived within a few days, well packed and with all attachements/accessories/warranty info/manual. I was a bit concerned about 'factory reconditioned', but does not appear to be an issue. The only indication that the machine was not brand new was the plain box and some (very) minor scratches on the extended platform accessory....nothing more than what would be caused by normal use within a few weeks. I only sew fairly simple projects, so it's actually more machine than I need...but it has some nice features, including a needle threader (which I will probably never use, but might be handy for someone with poor close up vision or shaky hands). The machine is very quiet, the drop in bobbin is the easiest I've ever used, and frankly, I think the machine is much more substantial than it appears in the picture. The price was great and the 25 year warranty certainly can not be beat. I found the instructions to be clear and easy to follow. I would highly recommend this machine to any beginner or intermediate seamstress/tailor.
I've been a sewer all my life, but have never had a new machine. This one is a dream! Smooth running...it just purrs! Threading it is very easy. I haven't tried any of the fancy stitches yet, but I'm very happy with its performance on the basics. For the price, I believe it's an outstanding deal. I only wish I had bought it sooner!
I ordered this machine because I didn't want any of the computerized ones. It does all the basics I wanted plus plenty more. The biggest downfall with this machine was adjusting the tension. I tried for 3 days with the first machine I received, but got nowhere. I now have the 2nd one, which works much better, and so far so good. I even tried a few of the fancy stitches which work great. Going by this 2nd machine I received, I would say it's a great machine, durable, and very versatile, and the price was (is) great. Just hope if you buy it you don't get a machine that has the tension problems, read another person had the same probs. Good luck, happy sewing.
And I am a total beginner. I inherited a heavy bernina but didn't want to pay $$$ to restore it and be terrified of it, so I bought this machine to learn on. Very easy to get going--just follow the manual and don't be scared. Within 10 minutes I was sewing... very much an accomplishment! It's lightweight, intuitive, and I love the needle threader. Though I've only had it for a few days, it definitely seems a good value for the little I paid for it.
Machine an excellent buy but arrived minus the foot pedal...really made me nervous...husband not fond of internet ordering....called customer service and was treated very well ...they kept me posted and informed me every step of the way... the pedal came within a week. Love the machine but will use Overstock again as they stood behind what they sold and cared that I was satisfied.
Good machine for my purposes. Easy to operate. Instruction booklet very helpful. Such a joy to have a variety of stiches to use. Machine runs quietly, is light weight, not bulky. I was very happy with the prompt delivery.
Even though this machine was refurbished, it carried an excellent warranty. Thank goodness, because mine arrived broken - I couldn't fix the bobbin tension. I contacted the warranty service provider and they sent me another (also refurbished) machine that is working as if new. This is a great machine for someone who sews infrequently but needs something reliable and easy to use.
My idea of successful sewing involves going really fast in a straight line without putting a needle through my thumb, so if you're accomplished, look elsewhere for a meaningful review. I looked for a few things in a machine: Self-threading (crucial), that easy kind of bobbin, a light, and fairly small and lightweight. Oh, and inexpensive. I discovered that the bobbin is only available in expensive machines, so I let that one go and bought this machine. It seems to be working out quite well. I manage to zoom in a straight line and do a couple of backward stitches to lock it without making huge knots, and it's lightweight. The self-threader took a bit of figuring out - the quick-start documentation is all pictures, and it had nothing to do with the way my mind works, but the manual, when I finally re-located it, got me there (the manual is online at Brother if you lose yours). It's not as easy as you hope it will be; it's not as if it can thread itself. You wind the thread here and there - the going up and down thingie is particularly odd, because you don't put it through a hole and it doesn't seem like there's any way to make it catch on anything, but if you persevere, it does. Anyway, you hook the thread onto something and hold it in front of a needle. If you've lined everything up properly (not difficult), when you push a lever, something will pop through the needle eye, grab the thread an pull it through. Clear as mud? Well, that's how I felt reading the instructions. But the real point here is that the thread goes through the hole, so the hardest part is done for you, but it's *barely* through the hole in a teeny loop behind the needle. You need to use a pin or something to capture the little bugger. Once you've done that, You're good to go. The other good news is that you don't have to do that business with catching the bobbin thrread. You just drop it in from the top and sew. Can't imagine what you must do with the easy version. The bad news is that the bobbin kept making some kind of loop at the beginning of the thread going onto it. As you can tell from reading this, it could have been user error, but I just put the thread where the picture said and ran it up through one of the holes, so I don't know where I went wrong. In any case, having the loop sticking out resulted in a couple cases of several broken threads coming from the bobbin area and knots. Since it was fewer knots than usual, I'm not complaining. I'm thinking I'll take one full wrap on the bobbin and *then* put the thread through the hole next time. They need a self threader for that, too! No cover. That's sad in my house. I have to keep the machine in the well of a desk that the dog loves to use as a den, so it's a hairy machine. I'm thinking I'll either have to put it in a bag or give it a name and start feeding it.
The instructions are excellent, including a detailed book and 2 quick sheets. The case is metal, while some moving parts are plastic. The machine runs quietly and is able to handle all weights of fabrics.
product arrived in 3 days!!!! have not yet used it but will be shortly and I am very excited about it. For simple projects it will be great
Nice machine! Runs great, has some very convenient features such as an automatic needle threader which makes it a snap to change thread colors, a thread diagram printed on the top of the machine, a ruler printer right on the work table which attaches to the machine and is super handy, and a whole bunch of great stitches such as blind hem stitch, fancy decorative stitches and stretch stitches (used in place of a serger), built in handhold making it easy to move, lightweight, and more. The instruction manual was easy to figure out and we had it purring along within an hour, doing all the stiches, buttonholes, etc. I find this much more convenient than computerized. This is a very nice machine for the price! The only drawback is the very plain packaging. This was a gift and it came in a plain brown cardboard box, just set down inside the box with padding. Not a label or colored flyer or anything. . . not the best presentation for a gift. A great buy nonetheless!
This machine is very confusing to use, even after reading the manual. I can't get the tension to be anywhere near right. In the manual it tells you the signs of too high or too low tension level, but when I sew I ended up with both signs. Overall, it's an ok machine. I would like to have gotten better though.
I was slightly trepidatious to buy a sewing machine, as it has been about 20 years since I last used one, but this has been an overwhelmingly positive experience. I found it very easy to use and have had no problems at all. I do very simple projects, and it works great for me.
Had this machine for a few years now and it still runs like new. I like all the attachments too. It's a good sewing machine..

The machine works perfectly ... shipped to me DAYS before I thought it would arrive .. Very happy with the purchase - and the great savings .
I have really enjoyed this machine in the couple months I've had it. It's easy to use, and I haven't had a problem with it yet, even though it was refurbished. I had some trouble with the tension, but I changed to a different brand of thread, and it worked out the issues. (Who knew that thread could have that big of an impact?) It's been a good machine, and I'm glad I bought it.
I really like this machine. It's easy to use, and to understand. It is really built well. This machine dollar for dollar is EXCELLENT!
Great machine - but I'm having touble with the bobbin tension - the underside stitched don't catch - but since this is my first sewing machine I'll keep on experimenting - I tried all 35 stiches and it is awesome - wished I had upgraded and bought a machine that does monograming - its so easy to set and sew!! Sewed some jean hems and was impressed how the machine just kept on moving over the seams - I recommend this machine - good sewing!!
