This is a wonderful sewing machine. It's easy to use, has some lovely features to it, such as the automatic threader, which for those of us who wear glasses is an absolute eye-saver and the reverse stitch button for double-seaming. It's easy to thread, both upper threading and bobbin threading and it's very easy to use, with tension, stitch length and stitch type controls in the logical places. Also love the buttonhole foot as it allows you to put your button in the slide and will automatically calculate the correct length for your buttonhole. The machine is also lightweight, which compared to my old Singer is a blessing. Lovely machine.

I cleared space in anticipation for the newest edition to my crafting area and I was not let down. I am not a seamstress, not by far, but this machine was so simple, the instruction have lots of picutres, that's a bonus, but even without the pictures it is really easy to follow. For being refurbished, it looks like new. The machine is in fantastic shape and all the little goodies in the "glove compartment" we perfect. If I had to do it again, it would be a no brainer. Once again, an Overstock satisfied customer.

I have not sewed for 35 years and wanted something just to run seams in remnants for cat blankets for the animal shelter. I tried my darndest to break it - through my amatuer abuse - and it has held firm. The needle threader is a godsend for my older eyes. I wish it would take thicker fabrics, but at this price I can't have it all. Good value - as I am not an expert sewer I can't list the limitations, but for a beginner trying to determine if you want to sew seriously - its great.

My wife was desirous of obtaining a good quality but uncomplicated sewing maching, she having given her computerized, high tech one to her daughter after struggling with it for a year or so. This one just fits the need. It has the Brother power and quality and at a most reasonable cost.

As for my rating, it's meaningless because we haven't used this machine yet. The rating is shown because this system requires a rating in order to post a review. Several reviews mention a DVD that is very helpful in learning to use this machine. The one I purchased came WITHOUT a DVD. When I called Overstock they suggested that I contact Brother. I did. Two different CSR's at Brother told me that THERE IS NO DVD FOR THIS MACHINE. Given that information, I'd appreciate the earlier reviewer's advising us as to how they received a DVD that, according to the manufacturer, doesn't exist.

I recently purchased the refurbished Brother XL 2600I sewing machine from Overstocks.com. It looks brand new. It runs beautifully. I have been sewing for over 30 years and love to make quilts by machine. It came with a walking foot and a free sewing foot, a $39 value. I have already mended heavy jeans and the machine did great. I would highly recommend it. The machine is quiet and does a beautiful job. It was a phenomenal value. There is also an assortment of feet that can be bought to use with the machine. I hope to buy some of those soon, from a place that offers Brother attachments.
I purchased this sewing machine for my 20 year old daughter. She is a busy college student so doesn't have much time to sew. I relied heavily on the reviews and decided that this was a good deal for the price. The machine was easy to use and figure out. We didn't get the DVD that others wrote about. The basic stitches work well. The decorative stitches, not so much. The satin stitch gets stuck under the foot once the thread creates bulk. We haven't been able to adjust everything just right so the stitches are uniform (except straight stitching). I think it will serve her well for her needs. I would never trade my Baby Lock for this machine. My daughter-in-law, an artist, tried it out and liked it and we agreed to get one for her but I am looking into some other machines that may handle more heavy-duty tasks. The machine is adequate for the price.

This sewing machine arrived timely and looked like a brand new machine vs. refurbished. Not complicated at all to use. I will enjoy it for years to come. Made my first pair of curtains last week and it worked like a charm. WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS FOR YOUR HOME USE

It only had 25 stitches which is not a big deal, but it didn't have the accessory or the storage and the company when contacted just sent me another one that didn't have the accessories or accessory holder either. When I contacted them again there as been no response... but it was from an outside company, and not overstock. Over a year later I am still trying to get the right parts.

It has been a very long time since I have sewn on a machine, and thought I would give this machine the chance. So I was very impressed with the many newer features they put out on these sewing machines. Very easy to read instructions with illustrations helps a beginner sewer like myself. Loved the ease of the needle threader and cutter. Overall I would say for a refurbished machine and at a great price, I would recommend this Brother sewing machine to others.

This is an excellent machine for a beginner. I bought it for my adult daughter who is a beginner sewer. It has weight to it and does not feel like a toy. It sews stitches like a more expensive model and is more than adequate for sewing household items like table runners, bags, curtains and quilt blocks. It has not been tested for clothes sewing. I am very impressed with this machine.

I love the features, especially the automatic needle threader. Worked well for a while, but then had problems with, I believe, the tension. The thread was looping and then suddenly would not even sew (no thread in the fabric). I spent hours trying to fix it. I need to call the hotline, however, I am usually pretty good at trouble shooting. Having said all this, it could be me, since I have not sewn before.

good value for the price, though I have not explored all the options so far. Some parts seem to be easily breakable though, so the one should treat them carefully. Other than that, it's OK deal!
PS. I was also pretty pleased with customer service. Thanks, O!

I have found the Brother XL 2600 Sewing Machine w/ Free Bonus Feet to be a good portable second machine to take to quilting meetings and classes. Having the walking and darning feet included were bonuses and made it an especially good bargain. Being lightweight, it is easy to transport. Sewing with this machine has been very satisfactory.

I love my sewing machine! It has an auto needle threader, user friendly instructions, and a DVD showing how to thread the needle and bobbin!
I am a 49yr old women and this is the first sewing machine I have ever owned and used. Therefore, easy to follow instructions are a must. The machine comes with an instruction:
1. Booklet
2. DVD ...Up close visual instructions on how to thread the bobbin and machine.
3 And on the top of the sewing machine is an illustration showing how to thread the bobbin and machine.
I especially recommend the Brother XL2600 to beginners.
Thank you very much!

This is a GREAT mechanical sewing machine as a second machine or for someone just starting to sew. It is easy to thread and use for those quick repair jobs or take to class. It is sturdy and well made and doesn't bulk at any type of fabric. So far I have repaired jeans, hemmed dress pants, sewed on buttons and made a cover for it with ease and professional results.
