Love my Brother

pmwilliams from Philadelphia, Nov 19, 2009

This is my first computerized sewing machine and I am sold. I have been sewing for over 30 years and I never knew it could be so easy. No more special parts just to do a different stitch. I gave up quilting several years ago because it was just too much of a hassle with my old machine. Now since I've been playing around with my Brother I ordered a ton of fabric from Connecting Threads and I am ready to rock n' roll....This Brother is a realy good value, Overstock is great to work with, product came on time and everything was included. If this is your first computerized machine do yourself a favor and read the instructions and practice with some scraps. Use good quility thread that matches your materal. You will be glad you did...Pat

Fantastic!

jodan108 from Abilene, TX, Nov 14, 2009

I bought this machine to replace one that was 19 years old. This machine is a dream and so easy to operate, thread and understand. I was up and running in just minutes. The stitches are beautiful and the machine comes with a lot of handy accessories. I read reviews from three sites and all comments about this machine were wonderful. The only thing I can add for someone considering this machine is: Believe the reveiws and treat yourself to this value-packed sewing machine!

I like this machine

sandy01301 from Western Massachusetts, Nov 14, 2009

This is a fun machine and a great starter, as I am. My 9 year old watched the disk and got me going. I have to give him time now and then to make up for his help (when I was looking for thread number conversion charts he figured out the name of the color came up the screen- like

Great concept, bad machine

tzcali from California, Nov 10, 2009

I don't know if I got a lemon or what, but I cannot recommend this machine based on my experience with it. I loved Overstock's price, loved the feature set.First day, the needle threader fell apart the first time I tried to use it. I just touched it and it fell apart. But I didn't want to haul a 30 pound box to UPS, so I shrugged it off (I use a manual threader). It also ate a shirt the first day - things get dragged into the feed dogs and the only way to get them loose is to cut it out, take the feed plate off, and clean out the scraps of precious shirt trapped underneath. I thought the shirt thing was my fault, that I must have done it wrong. Nope - it does it all the time. The thread tensioner seems to be defective - no matter what setting I use, the bobbin thread shows on the front of my embroidery (using quality Rayon embroidery thread). The machine can't handle anything thinner than fleece without adding a stabilizer - for sewing AND embroidery. If you buy it anyway, do you yourself a favor and test EVERY fabric/thread combo before putting anything valuable into the machine. I have had so many things ruined by being pulled into the feed dogs or getting really really bad embroidery. I really loved the machine when I thought all the problems were user error, but I can't afford to keep feeding it my clothes.

Let the projects begin!

jclarkaz from Mechanicsburg, PA, Nov 5, 2009

Gone is the 50 lb. machine of old - that I am sure worked, but not for me. I needed something easy, easy, easy! This baby is it. My 10 year old son watched the DVD and then explained the way it all worked to me. He has already started a scrap material blanket of his own. My only concern when researching the purchase was whether or not it would come with all the accessories since it is refurbished. As far as I can tell, it did - even all the presser feet. The only way I can tell that it is refurbished is the clear plastic template for use in eyeing up embroidery positioning seems to be a bit scratched - although not much, and certianly not to any degree that even matters. It is not too heavy, and is very quiet, even on my glass top kitchen table. I can sew and not wake the baby or interrupt the Yankee game on tv, and can almost get away with sewing without my son knowing and begging to use it - may have to buy another! There is no travel across the table from the vibration either. The customer service was excellent when I needed to call in to complete my order due to a minor computer glitch when purchasing. And, I was disappointed to see that standard shipping meant I'd have to wait 5-10 days. Well, no such thing! The machine was received in five days - and those five days included the weekend. Not bad at all! Haven't tried the embroidery yet. I am liking the push button sew option, the thread trimming options, the ease to fill a bobbin, and well, all of it!
