My Review title says it all. I opened the box, read over the directions for about an 1/2 hour and worked my way up to actually hemming some pants. Amazing. The only thing I haven't figured out is the easy threader. I priced the machine on other sites and saved over $50. I believe any machine that is easy enough to allow a first timer to actual produce decent results is an amazing piece of machinery.

I bought this machine to do basic household sewing and I have been extremely sorry. If I try to sew on anything thicker than two pieces of lightweight material, the error message is displayed, the needle breaks or the machine refuses to budge and I end up with a tangled nest of threads. Also the thread comes out of the needle almost everytime I begin to sew and I have to re-thread it.

I specifically purchased this machine with the intention of being able to do free motion embroydery... i feel that the advertisement for it was misleadining because it indicated that you can do that with this machine, although it did not indicate that a seperate "darning foot" would need to be purchased. I am still waiting for the order of the special foot which is currently out of stock at brother .com. needless to say, i considered returning the machine because I think it was misleading to not indicate that a seperate part would need to be purchased in order to do machine embroydery...

I hadn't sewn since I was a kid. This machine is simple to use, I haven't even read the manual yet have figured out most of the features. Since I have only used it for a few months I do not feel a good judge of it's durabilty, but all else is great. Nor have I tried out any of the different feet or complicated stitching, I don't anticipate it being an issue when I do get that far. I consider it great for the price and would recommend you too strongly consider it over other machines at this price.

I am not a novice. I've been sewing for fifty years. I purchased this machine to have a backup for when I was using my embroidery machine, and it has been beyond my expectations. I have two other backups in the closet, but this is the one I use. It is so light I take it to quilting workdays, and others who use it there can't believe how great it sews. Great price, too.

I have never sewn before and this machine has made it a breeze. I had no problem getting the needle threader to work as mentioned by others. Any issues I have had have been when I threaded the machine wrong. I was easily able to fix any issue and resume sewing. I highly recommend this machine for the novice. The drop in bobbin feature and needle threader makes set up so easy and less time consuming! I never knew I would enjoy sewing so much, and this machine is a big reason why! Definitely a lot of bang for the buck. I have been using the machine for about a month now, so I can't say too much about the durability. But so far, no issues! Happy sewing!

I love the machine, however less than 3 hours of sewing, and it already needs repair. Has a major problem. Did buy it reconditioned, but am truly frazzled by this. Very disappointed that the machine was not fixed properly, and wondering if I'll be able to ever get it to work right, if it's already been reconditioned once!! Very, very unhappy with this purchase, but would like to have another Brother, as I like the way the machine sewed when it was working!

I have never used a sewing machine before, and this was SO easy to use. I thought treading the thing would be hard, but it was a snap! It has no problem going through 6 layers of fabric (the most I've tried), and has many wonderful features. I love how it self threads, and there's a cutter on the side of the machine to snip your thread. It has a lot of beautiful decorative stitches as well. It's a really easy and fun machine to use, and I am sewing up a storm now!

This machine is priced just right and came in excellent condition. It is very easy to use. I didn't know how to sew before buying this machine and its very easy to learn on, but has many stictches for the experienced sewer.

I am not a sewer and just wanted something for easy mending and potentially straight stiches. This is probably a little more than I needed, but I'm having fun with it. I have mended everything from clothing to tents and snowmobile covers. Nothing broke and it's still going strong.

I am not a seamstress. However, I needed something that I could use to repair simple tears and hem pants. I haven't had sewing class in over 30years. This machine was very simple to use. I was able to quickly hem 6 pairs of pants and mend one shirt in less than 2 hours.

It works beyond my expectation. I have done so many projects with this machine from jeans, to dress, curtains, pillow cases, and slip covers. When I first got it, I had a hard time putting the thread as pictured on the instruction, but after that, everything was easy. This is my 2nd sewing machine in my lifetime and I was a beginner upon receiving it. After reading sewing books that I had purchased online and also watching how-to-sew youtube videos, my knowledge and ability to sew is now intermediate with the help of this nice sewing machine. I've owned Brother sewing machines since 1970 - the last one was from the '80's. Wow, they've improved a lot of things. Love the automatic needle threader - it takes a bit of practice, but is a convenience if you have trouble seeing the eye of the needle. Easy to set up, and use right out of the box, but take the time to study the manual. Lightweight, easy to move and transport. This one is for my daughter in law - I recently purchased the XR 7700 for myself and love it, too. Both were refurbished, but look and run exactly as new machines. I highly recommend it for any fashion or home sewing project. You will not be disappointed. Overstock ships fast!

This machine is great! I have used it several times since I have received it. It is easy to use and thread. It runs quietly. I would recommend this to anyone who needs a machine. I love all the foot attachments, especially the quilting foot. I can't really run out of good things to say about this sewing machine. It is very light as well. Anyone wanting a good machine for starters, or experienced sewers such as myself, would love this machine!

It's been a long time since I used a sewing machine.. Boy how they have come a long way...~~ I was a little overwhelmed with all the features at first.. I love how easy it is to use. drop in bobbin.. Wow ..self threading ++ . push button reverse.. makes sewing fun again and not a chore.~So far everything works great ..still working on the basics and taking it slow.. I can't wait to be able too use all the fancy options at my fingertips. Also, love how light weight and compact the machine is..

I purchased this machine as a replacement for my Singer that is ancient and not working properly. This machine is light weight and relatively easy to use. I haven't done a ton of stuff with it yet but it is easy to use. My Mom was here and tried out each stitch that the machine offers and it did them all perfectly. I was also impressed with the accessories that come with the machine. Looking forward to sewing again. Thanks, overstocks, for making it easy to purchase an item that wasn't going to break the bank. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone.

I haven't really sewn for years, and wasn't sure I wanted to learn how to use a new machine. I received this and it looked great, but I let it sit for a couple of months. Then one day I had to make a repair quickly and found out much to my relief and delight that this was really easy to use. I'll have to read the instructions for the more complicated features, but to initially thread it, fill the bobbin and sew a seam, it was just as described.
