I am mom of a 5 and a 2 year old and I wanted to learn how to crochet. I bought myself the kit for christmas. In my few minutes of spare time I am making a scarf. The diagrams are easy to understand and follow. I am looking foward to making more crafts.

I bought this for my mum she was really looking forward to learning new crochet stitches and was bitterly disappointed when she opened this! Its not even a book! It's more of a handout you get free with a magazine.. It is SO thin everything in there my mum already knew and she had only been crocheting a few weeks, its not even for beginners its more for those who are thinking about crocheting and haven't even learnt how to chain. The price it gives you isn't even the price you end up paying because without telling you they put a heavy delivery charge on it not to mention it was actually dispatched 2 weeks after we had ordered! I wouldn't recommend this leaflet to anyone!

I am an intermediate knitter, who decided to try switching to crochet. I bought this set to teach me how to crochet. Almost immediately, I noticed that the instructions were lacking. For example, it never tells you what side to hold your yarn on (and yes it does make a difference), and half the instructions have no accompanying picture to check and see of you are doing it right. The very first pattern which is supposedly for a "beginner" doesn't use their beginning stitches, instead it uses one of the "specialty" stitches and two colors of yarn. The same goes for the second and the third. So basically, I practiced and learned the first 5 forms of stitches, and then couldn't do a single project from the book with them. In addition, the first pattern requires a crochet needle with hooks on both ends, yet the kit doesn't come with one. I tried a temporary fix using my circular knitting needles, but it still requires sliding the yarn off the crochet hook onto the circular needle and then back to the crochet hook in the other direction. This is tedious at best, and increases the chances of dropping a loop, which I can fix because I'm familiar with yarn patterns, but a beginner wouldn't be able to do it. Even the pattern instructions include phrases that are never described in the book. Overall, this set is not helpful and the beginning crocheter would do well to stay away from it.

My granddaughter has learned the fundamentals of crochet from me...now it was time for her to learn more and have her own materials. This made a perfect Christmas gift along with some spare yarn I had. She was very pleased.

I recently purchased this kit and I was so excited to start crocheting. I am pretty crafty and creative...I quilt, etc... however, this kit is on its way back. The diagrams are impossible to understand. There are arrows that show where the hook should be, but it is difficult to visualize how the arrows relate to the hook. The worded directions are no better. I spent the last few hours trying again and again to do this. I could not get through any more than lesson 1. I am a book learner and often teach myself new skills, but this skill is impossible to learn with this kit. Maybe if a person learned from a human or a video along with this kit, it might work. However, this kit alone is useless.
