Indeed, the scarf has a nasty smell to it; not sure if it is from the dye, or the material itself but I agree with the other reviewer - it stinks. I tried to just air it out and wore it without washing it first but I only lasted about 10 minutes... had to take it off because the odor became overwhelming. Even after the wash and dry, the scarf still has some odor left in it. I'm not sure if I can wear it again. Pity really as it is quite delicate and lovely otherwise (I have the purple one). Sorry, cannot recommend this item.
Unfortunately I purchased this scarf in pink and immediately noticed an exceptionally strong petroleum smell. Hand washed and sun dried the scarf and still the smell. Washed it again and still the incredibly strong smell. This is unwearable. Too bad, the fabric and style are great, but no way can anyone stand the smell.
